irish
I'm thinking he's going to be the starting QB in Oakland sooner rather than later. Edited August 15, 2006 by irish
neilfish2
I sure hope so.....just drafted Moss, and have watch Brooks make a mess of things for 6 yrs....he is just going to bring Moss down....
Sugar Magnolia
I just saw the 67 yard pass and came down to post a new topic-Andrew Walters. You beat me to it. I'm thinking even as a first year starter he would at least throw fewer interceptions than Brooks, and maybe more TD's. I hope they give this guy the opportunity to play this year. irish
Would be nice to see but I fear Brooks is the guy until/unless they completely tank.
Chavez
Would be nice to see but I fear Brooks is the guy until/unless they completely tank. So Walters should be in by week 7 is what I'm hearing from you.

Vicster
What does this have to do with Leinert? Both could be starting by week 7? Or is Walter the latest guy to date Paris Hilton? I'm confused... back to searching for Leinert info...
The Wolf
So if you had to choose one, who would it be...Walter or Rivers?

JolleyRoger
Walter will be a great ,but the Raiders have to start him this year and let him take his lumps.
Avernus
So if you had to choose one, who would it be...Walter or Rivers? Rivers...better talent and healthier options Moss, Gabriel and Curry have had trouble staying healthy.... Rivers has LT2, Gates, a young V Jackson and an old McCardell.... Return Of S&B
This will obviously be another re-building year for the Raiders so they might as well start Walters now. I wasnt convinced earlier...but after only 2 preseason games I am so sick of Brooks I hope they cut him. Although Walters threw 2 INTs, he showed a lot more composure while out there and the line seemed to block for him better....maybe he just had more presence in the pocket....give it a couple weeks he'll be starting. From the beginning of camp Art Shell has been saying the QB position was an open battle...I have to believe after tonight Walters is closer to starting the entire regular season because while his performance wasnt perfect it was far better than Brooks. I guess having Brooks as a fantasy QB is a lot different than having him lead your NFL team....the guy just makes me nervous...he even seems to piss of Moss...the sooner he's benched the better. I think that the goal should be to lose as many games and get a high pick next year... whether or not Brooks or Walter fits the description is anyone's guess... I would rather start Brooks if I was making the decision so nobody looks like a fool for signing Brooks to be a backup when they could have had a cheaper option... and then bench Brooks after a horrible start.... also...Gallery hasn't looked impressive and I wouldn't completely blame him. If they had a better supporting cast on the OL, he'd fit in better... they need to hit FA next year with a goal of signing the best offensive lineman.....even if it's all the can afford aside from the draft picks... you have your offensive weapons...you now need the OL and DL...the rest will fall into place in a few years.. Al Davis never starts rookies or inexperienced QB's. He likes to stick with low-end team-to-team QB's ala Rich Gannon. We just happened to luck out there. I agree, might as well start him now and get his 'development' under-way. And as an LJ2 owner, I would love it! Without the mobility that a guy like Brooks has, he will be forced to check down to Jordan constantly. Rather than having Brooks try to scramble and make plays and getting sacked all over the place! Side note- if only there wasn't such a HUGH cap penalty hit, they could cut that bumb Robert Gallery...
Return Of S&B
Walters is an Al Davis favorite...he's started young QBs in the past, he just had more success with veterans. My money is on Walters...I believe he'll start come September.
TecmoBeast
Walters seems to be a little inaccurate which is a big knock, he did lay a perfect deep ball for the TD. He's showing great pocket presence. I also notice him making reads, sometimes to the third guy. This guy can play. I think he's a the Oakland QB to finish the season. kpholmes
Walters is an Al Davis favorite...he's started young QBs in the past, he just had more success with veterans. My money is on Walters...I believe he'll start come September. Walter has been my guy since we drafted him. More importantly, he has been Al Davis' guy. He was an Al Davis pick. Tall, Smart (Wonderlic of 31), Slow (yet shifty in the pocket) and can throw one hell of a deep ball; everything Davis looks for in a QB. Yea, he made afew mistakes out there tonight, but he outplayed Brooks by far. And at 24 years old, those mistakes come from inexperience and can easily be learned from. That 67 yard bomb was amazing though, and that is why I have always been behind Walter. With Shell supporting the deep game, and Moss at the other end of that rainbow throw, Walter has a lot of potential. For some previous Walter discussion check out Oakland's Best of the Rest Mark my words, Andrew Walter is the future of the Raiders franchise.
