Swampnuts
I figure that I'm not alone in this. I've got Portis in my two locals and I'm pulling my hair out already. I'm just interested in who's going to roll with him and see if he plays, or what quality of backs you're going to start ahead of him. I can start Gore ahead of him in one league, and Bush or Chris Brown in another. I'm leaning towards playing Gore, but I've got little confidence in the other choices. Who are you guys going with? MrTed46
I have Portis on my BoTH league ... I will not be starting him unless I get confirmation that he is going to play. ....
Avernus
who has the fafe? edit: also...I'd start Duckett....I'd expect him to spell Portis if he plays and automatically get the GL carries... kingfish247
according to Rotowire today... Sep 5 Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said that Portis (shoulder) has had two good days of practice, but his status for Monday night's season opener is still uncertain, the Hampton Roads Daily Press reports. "He'd have to be out there, going 100 percent, slamming around before you'd play him," Gibbs said.Recommendation: Portis' status will obviously be measured closely in practice this week. He's the biggest fantasy injury question mark for Week 1's slate of games, and the fact that the Redskins play on Monday night makes the decision all the more difficult. at least he's practicing. he won't be starting for me this week unless there's more positive news later in the week. if he's practiced twice, i'd expect him to be listed as questionable. not doubtful as CBSCrapline is reporting. MrTed46
As a Portis owner, I don't want him coming back until it is fully healed (even if take 2 weeks). Trying to win 2-3 games without him is hard, tring to win the entire season without him = toiletbowl champion

PantherDave
I had many picks in my drafts in the 4-6 spots, and I did not touch him in any of my leagues. I just felt like this is going to linger all season and will need more down time than the PS to heal properly and will most likely require surgery after the pounding he'll take with the Skins schedule, as it plays some mighty stout DT's. weirhead
I grabbed Portis at 2.7 in my 10-team league, even though I knew I was opening a can of worms. I'm going with R. Brown and Droughns this week.

This is not necessarily true. Portis has not participated in a full practice yet. According to Gibbs, he's had 2 good days of running and his status for Monday to quote the Coach "will be up to him [Portis]". He usually plays through anything so I'd expect him to start on Monday. The Skins are practicing today and they have tomorrow off. We should know more of Portis' progress tonight.

Chadman
Sidebar personal opinion regarding the opponent this week. I think the Vikings new defensive scheme has them looking much stronger defensively so far. It's just preseason, but the new scheme seems to suit the personnel a lot better. Looks like it may be tougher to run outside as the kids seem much improved, and it is and was difficult to run up the middle against Pat Williams and Kevin Williams. The linebackers seem to be asked to do a lot less, which has helped a lot, too. Might be worth a thought as you are making a decision... nhoops
He fell to me at 2.10 in a 10 team league. I made sure I had other backups to fill in. But now I have to decide between JJones, Bush, C.Brown and Lundy to start alongside LJ I won't start him until he's almost 100% I'd hate to have him try to go and get pulled. At some point you are going to be sitting pretty with LJ and Portis. Wow. And jeez, with those backup RBs you could probably shore up QB or WR or whatever... DexterDew
the fact that we are talking about a Monday night game makes it even more convoluted.... I would love to roll the dice with Portis but can't afford a game time scratch. If I were a betting man (and FF is a form of betting) I say he plays. We should know more in the next 48 hours to help make the decision...
mroban
I grabbed Portis at 2.7 in my 10-team league, even though I knew I was opening a can of worms. I'm going with R. Brown and Droughns this week. I took him at 2.2 in my 10 man league. I had the 9th pick and took Steven Jackson first and came back with Portis in the 2nd. I grabbed Warrick Dunn in the 4th and will probably start him this week. Portis in the 2nd round is a no-brainer IMO
Donutrun Jellies
Mr. Gore, welcome to the lineup, please run ruffshod over Arizona. Mr. Portis? Make yourself comfortable on the bench until you're healthy. Egad - but that's the plan!
