keggerz
this is what I wrote in my IDP Game Breakdowns article this week and I do think this an absolutely great thing for the Browns. The Browns beat the Steelers. The Steelers, a team that they had lost to 12 consecutive times. Just when Browns fans thought things couldn't get any better there are rumors circulating that Mike Holmgren has been offered a front office position with the team. While that win over the Steelers is sweet for Browns fans, landing Holmgren would actually make this a very successful season, regardless of their season record. Ursa Majoris
If they GM him, when does he also become HC?
keggerz
per Adam Caplan Holmgren will be team President and Mike Keenan will transition to the role of Chief Financial Officer.
bushwacked
If they GM him, when does he also become HC? GM or team president? Anyway, congrats to the Brown fans. Not sure you got the best talent evaluator (especially on defense), but this has got to at least rekindle some optimism in getting things headed the right way. keggerz
ESPN just said he won't announce it until after xmas...so much for that “We are pleased to announce that Mike Holmgren has agreed to join the Cleveland Browns,” said Owner Randy Lerner. “We will spend the rest of the week finalizing the details of the agreement and will make a formal announcement next week, at which time we will make him available to the media.” http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/article.php?id=10303 Edited December 21, 2009 by keggerz

Henry Muto
The biggest fear of everyone here on the local radio talk shows is on the 11 upcoming draft picks and how important it is the Browns have a good draft and they were very afraid of EM making the picks. I sure hope MH does well with them.

kpholmes
He'll go after someone who is also from the Walsh coaching tree to work with... ala Gruden or Mariucci.
Suture
Holmgren + Gruden = Awesome for the Browns.
bushwacked
I thought I read or heard that Gruden's contract with ESPN came with some non-negotiable time commitment of some sort.
MustOfBeenDrunk
I thought I read or heard that Gruden's contract with ESPN came with some non-negotiable time commitment of some sort. he just said about 30 minutes ago on the preshow that he would not be coaching next year but staying in the booth
kpholmes
I thought I read or heard that Gruden's contract with ESPN came with some non-negotiable time commitment of some sort. I believe he recently signed an extension with them... but I was listening to the radio and it was either Jim Rome or Mike & Mike that said in the past teams have bought coaches/personnel out of their contracts with networks, and that Gruden had a contract that was capable of this. Not sure how accurate that it. For a list of coaches Holmgren will look at, refer to here. he just said about 30 minutes ago on the preshow that he would not be coaching next year but staying in the booth Said the only coaching he would be doing would be his son's flag football team. Gruden talks before thinking though, so I wouldn't put too much significance into that statement. Seahawks21
Holmgren is going to make them good, and sooner than later. In retrospect, the job he did as GM in Seattle has been vastly underrated. He built the team, Ruskell got the credit. Sure, he made a few bad (ok terrible) picks along the way, but he got better at that as he went along. He also made a few great picks and a couple amazing trades (2 first rounders for Philip Daniels or Michael Sinclair, I can't remember which). The Browns get a guy who got his rookie mistakes out of the way somewhere else. All you have to do is the direction the Seahawks went in after he lost his GM role. The plight of almost every franchise lies on the shoulders of their QB, and from that aspect, is there any other guy in the business right now you would rather have making the decision as to who should play QB? Also, I would be willing to bet big money that Holmgren coaches again. You can just hear it in his voice in his interviews. When he was asked directly in Seattle about a month ago, he admitted that putting the coaching aside is going to be a difficult project for him to deal with. I just know the guy wants to be on the sidelines again. I think even Holmgren wants to be a GM and not coach anymore in his head, but he just can't shake the idea of coaching. We all know he has a pretty hefty ego, and I don't think he is content to go 4-12 in the last season he coaches. Either way, welcome to relevancy Cleveland Browns.
