godtomsatan
We'll tie, pack our bags and go home early. Then within 4-6 years, the MLS will go under. MLS got a start because we hosted the World Cup, suffered through the horrible showing in France and picked up after we made it to the round of 8 in Asia. The US has little patience with new stuff, so this may be what makes ten seasons of losing money finally catch up with the league.

spain
Rest assured I'll be bumping this f*cking thread tomorrow at 8:30. The Swiss are always anxious for everyone else to go into battle, while they themselves are always on the sidelines holding everyone's watches and gold chains... Don't forget chocolate. And hey, just in case they DO go into battle, they have those nifty little knives.
wiegie
Don't forget chocolate. And hey, just in case they DO go into battle, they have those nifty little knives. They seriously do issue Swiss Army knives to Swiss soldiers (the real version has an aluminum handle and does NOT come with a corkscrew--much to the chagrin of my Swiss friends)

Actually: http://worldsoccer.about.com/cs/historyand...s/a/opencup.htm "The U.S. Open Cup is the the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is one of the oldest in the world." Football (soccer) has been around a very long time in this country. It is far from "new" since it has been played here since 1862...... http://worldsoccer.about.com/gi/dynamic/of...t%2F%7Espectrum I don't know how you define success, but I would say that soccer meets the longevity requirement and, while not a billion dollar advertising dream of other sports played here, it should be called successful. If for no other reason than the massive number of kids playing it. We may not have the pro leagues others have, but there's one heck of a youth base. BiggieFries
I can already see my day sucking! The streaming software I watch games on isn't playing the US game! I can only watch the Italy-Czech game. Edited June 22, 2006 by BiggieFries

Vinatieri Is God
2 yellow cards already. I am amazed by the randomness of those things. Worse than hockey.
Hugh 0ne
If for no other reason than the massive number of kids playing it. We may not have the pro leagues others have, but there's one heck of a youth base. It's cheap and easy compared to other sports. Throw a bunch of little ones on the field and let 'em run around a little and kick a ball. Not much skill required initially, and not much expense either. At least not compared to baseball (requires much more skill at that age and a little more equipment) or hockey (more skill, much more equipment cost, and throw in finding an ice rink into the mix) or football (more skill and more equipment). Flip_Side
A lot of fouls going on in the game so far, I'm also watching the Italy Vs Czech game on ESPN 2, Italy doesn't look to be falling as much Vs them.
