redzone channel is not 'all' you need. i love the channel but i am a big homer too and so i enjoy getting to watch the cowboys every week rather than just following who's scored as they do it. i can watch that online.

I am stuck in Texas. I can't take watching the Boys bumble away another season. I will be following anyone OTHER than the Cowboys. ST is a must for me.

Two weeks ago my wife called DirecTV and they wouldn't give her the ticket, all they were willing to give her was 12 months worth of a $10/month bill credit (she took it). Never let a woman do a mans job.... Yesterday I called, and got an additional $20/month in bill credits (through August of 2014), and the NFL TICKET MAX for free - 5th year in a row I haven't paid for it. It's all about how you talk to them... :)

so I just called and got told that there's no way anyone can get the NFL ticket free for 2 years in a row. she wanted to downgrade my package to lower my bill. I said I'd call back later

I don't think that's true since lots of people claim to have gotten it free consecutive years. I have never gotten it free but I almost always get credits that exceed the cost.

This year I got the package with Red zone for $146, a free Genie with install, $20 credit for 12 months and $15 credit for 15 months. Been with them since '99 and haggling since '04. I complained that my bill is always going up and need it down to $100 a month or I'm going to Dish and getting a Hoppa.

I was able to get it free again this year. When I called I told them all I wanted was the Red Zone channel and that I could get it on Comcast or Dish for around $12. And that would rather cancel my direct Tv and go somewhere else thatw ould offer me this channel without having to buy the Sunday ticket. By the time I got off the phone...I had my bill lowered almost by half, Sunday ticket, the new Genie dvr (free installation) , and the protection plan with HBO & Show. It can be done....you just have to find someone that will work with you.

I haven't paid for it in 5 years.. Been a customer for 8 years.. Whoever is telling you that is trying to call your bluff.. Call back - go through the automated system to cancel your service, when you get someone on the line, just tell them you pay too much for DirecTV, you have Netflix and Hulu (doesn't matter if you do or do not) and you only pay a fraction of the price for those services. They'll tell you that you owe to break your contract (if you are in one). Just tell them that paying to break it is cheaper for you than paying monthly till it expires. I've used this excuse now 3 years in a row - worked every time, the first time. Not only have I gotten the NFL Ticket for free, but these last 2 years they've also given me 12 months of $30/month bill credits. If for whatever reason they do call your bluff and start the cancellation process, just hang up. They have to give you some big legal statement (they're reading it) and you have to agree. Just hang up before agreeing to cancel and call back. You'll get someone who can hook you up. I've even had some of those people tell me they're authorized to do just about whatever it takes to keep their customers. If you have to, just call their bluff a step further. I had a lady ask me last year how I'm going to get my football fix if I cancel my service. I told her that my local cable company doesn't charge as much for their service, nor do they lock me into a contract, and for $40 I can get the RedZone for an entire season. (Be sure though when you get the Ticket for free, you eventually will - you need the NFL Ticket MAX to get the RedZone channel. They'll try to get you to pay the $40 upgrade fee, but I simply told them a few weeks ago that it's a deal breaker. That's all I watch on Sundays. If I have to pay for it, I'm cancelling to save money and I'll just get local cable service for a few months. They threw that in too...) Be persistent but be polite and professional - you'll get what you want.

DTV is giving is away because they are going to lose the sunday ticket to google.

Sorry but that doesn't make sense. They're giving it a way because the vast majority of subscribers pay for it and don't haggle to get it at a reduced price. They can afford a few freebies to retain customers.

nope

They have been giving it away for years to the tiny percent of people who actuallyt haggle with them.

As far as Google, I doubt they a viable option when the next contract comes out. People like to watch football on TVs not on computers

Haven't paid for the ticket in years. Basically like most others, I call and tell them the only reason I have DirecTV is because of the ticket, but the ticket is too expensive, so I'm cancelling the whole thing and getting Fios. If they ever try to threaten me with cancelation fees, I tell them I don't care.

So this year's deal, they gave me the NFL Max ticket for something like $125, but they gave me a $50 immediate credit, plus an additional $20 credit each month for 12 months, for a total of $290 in credits. Plus they upgraded me with the Genie boxes in every room at no cost.

All you have to do is be firm, but polite, and they will bend over backwards to keep you as a customer.

From what I have heard DTV cannot afford it. They pay $1B a year and the price is going to go way up. The NFL can make a lot more money if they have companies that can afford to overpay for it bidding against each other, i.e Google and Apple. DTV loses money on it but uses it as a loss leader to attract business. No way they can go $1.5B or $2B a year for it.

Here's the deal if you order Madden 25 Special Edition ( $99 )

Basically, if you are not currently a DirecTV subscriber you can get Sunday Ticket on your laptop or mobile device. In the FAQ section and in a forum dedicated to the topic DirecTV confirmed that you do not need to subscribe to get it. Those that are already DirecTV subscribes seem to get hosed again, they only get a code bumping them up to the Max package plus some credits.

So as a non-subscriber to DirecTV I get the game ( usually $60 ) plus Sunday Ticket on my laptop/iPad for only a little more. I ordered the game ( which I would have likely done anyway ) and I get the Sunday Ticket for a total of $99, seems like a good deal.

From the description on Amazon.com;

Exclusive Offers From DirecTV

1. For fans who are not currently DirecTV subscribers but are able to receive DirecTV service, they will receive a promo code entitling them to $10 off per month for their first year of service and one year of NFL Sunday Ticket Max at no additional charge.

2. For fans who are already DirecTV and NFL Sunday Ticket Max subscribers, you can access NFL Sunday Ticket on your computer, tablet, and mobile devices using your current DirecTV username and password.

3. For fans unable to receive DirecTV service, each Madden NFL 25 Anniversary Edition will include a unique code to access the 2013 regular season (17 weeks) trial of NFL Sunday Ticket on computers, tablets, and mobile devices- including access to the award-winning Red Zone Channel.

* edited to fix junk text from cut and paste

I'm doing this, selling my game without code and then enjoying the whole package for what I'm guessing is 40 bucks without a DTV subscription, which is great since I cut my cord.

Not mine....

If Google pays 1.5 B they will lose a lt more money tha DTV is currently losing.

I for one would drop the package since I'm not going to connect my TV to a computer. And I imagine there are quite a few luddites like myself that don't see the point

If the computer has an HDMI jack and our TV does too its as simple as buying a cable and plugging it in. Of course if the computer cannot easily be moved or located by the TV that isn't so easy.

But I agree, people want it on their TV service, not on their PC.

Yeah the Madden 25 Anniversary Edition seems like the way to go this year. If you don't play games, then sell the game to someone brand new (make sure you use the code inside the case before giving it away though). This offer is through Amazon ONLY. $40 for the Ticket isn't bad at all. Gotta hook it up to the TV if you want to watch it on the big screen, but that's definitely worth the 10 minutes it takes to situate all that rather than paying the $350 or whatever and then calling DTV just to argue with them.

Nothing like waiting to get the Ticket for free at the last minute.....Been with DTV since 2006, have to call first and get shot down, then transferred to a account specialist....hang up before speaking to that account specialist and email DTV about your disappointment of your phone call and having to hang up after waiting to long and you are also disappointed that new customers get treated better than long term loyal customers in that they get the ticket free. Go on to tell them that over the next week you will be exploring packages to switch to your local cable company or Dish because you see no value in staying with them anymore. And they have that time period to respond to you.

I got a email less than 24 hours stating they would give it to me free if I agree to stay for one year. Works every year!!!

Thanks a bunch to all of you on the Huddle forum. I called and got it for free also. My agent there claimed that threatening to leave isn't what gets us the free package, but that it's all about your status with DirecTV and how long you've been with them. At any rate, I'm thrilled to have saved all this money. It'll pay for my Huddle subscription for years to come.

Have been meaning to call DTV and completely forgot...got my bill today and had the $49.99 auto-renew charge for Sunday Ticket. Called and said I wanted to cancel...first person was going to cancel me...once they put me on hold I hung up...called back about 10 minutes later and said I was getting ready to cancel DTV...got transferred to "CRD" (I'm guessing that's Customer Retention Dept.)...the rep was very nice and wanted to do what she could so I'd remain a DTV customer...I used the "my wife wants me to cancel because Sunday Ticket is to expensive, plus it goes out in storms, but I really don't want to but I'm not going to argue with my wife over a cable bill"...When we were done she gave me the following:

1. Issuing a credit for the $49.99 payment that was taken out for ST.

2. Giving me $30 in bill credits for the next 12 months.

3. Giving me ST Max for FREE.

4. Giving me the new Genie DVR for free.

5. 6 months of Starz/Encore for free (don't have to call back to cancel, just falls off).

6. 3 months of Showtime for free (same fall off as Starz).

To say I'm happy with the outcome would be an understatement.

Just called and got the same deal. Didn't even have to strong-arm them. They folded like a house of cards.

So this past weekend I was cleaning out the garage and the redzone channel is perfect for this. If you can't sit and focus on the games, RZ is awesome. They do a really good job of putting the most interesting action on the screen. I will be replacing the fuel injectors on one of the cars this Sunday and plan to do the same.

For Sunday's when I can actually sit and watch uninterrupted, I like to pick 2-3 games to really watch and flip between. Any more than 3 and it just becomes a hassle. I typically watch some combo of the Broncos, the game with the most of my top FF players, and what I think will be the most competitive/entertaining game. :pop:

I really love being able to download the shortcuts and watch every game over the course of the week. Having the games condensed into 28 minutes is just freaking great! :fball::fball::fball::fball::fball:
