rbmcdonald
Much press has been given recently about the effort to amend the constitution to prohibit the burning of the American Flag. It is a great inflammatory topic with vivid imagery, that has virtually no impact on the lives of everyday Americans. Some people love to talk about the brave men and women, who have died defending the flag. It is true that this country has been blessed with countless brave men an women, who have fought, suffered and died selflessly. We are all tremendously lucky for their sacrifice and what it has given us. However, I would like you all to do a quick search on the internet, and find the oath used by the Armed Forces of the United States. The oaths used for officers and enlisted, has remained virtually unchanged for 200 years. Find one of those oaths, read it and come back here and tell me, what did those men and women really die defending? I thank the congress for the time and money that they are spending, to defend the American Flag, but there is something much more precious they need to be defending, because without it, the flag means nothing. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060620/ap_on_...lice_phone_data
AtomicCEO
Distractions: - Iraq Occupation 4 years after accomplishing our mission (thanks Grunge) - Flag Burning - Gay Marraige Real Issues: - Leaks of classified info from the White House to discredit opponents, and the resulting 3 year coverup. - Warrantless surveilance of citizens with no oversight. - Iran - Korea - Osama Bin Laden - Executive Branch consolidation of power, something the founding fathers specifically warned about. We need some checks and balances, and the current congress is rubber stamping everything that comes from the most corrup president of our lifetimes. untateve
You only have something to fear if you have done something wrong as the American government would never abuse power. They need this data to fight terrorists and keep us safe. As I have said before, I don't care if the government listens in on my phone calls, accesses my financial records, or comes into my home and conducts a thorough search because I have nothing to hide. Those of you who fear the goals of our government likely have something hiding in your closet.

Clearly, you are a Josh Gordon smoking, child pornagrapher who is worried about your impending implosion. I also thought I would head off the ultra-conservative comments regarding how it is better to give up our freedom and rights than become victims of terrorism. rbmcdonald
I would never burn a flag unless they made it illegal. Ditto. Personally, I wish they would go back to the rule that said there are only specific flags (7?) that can be left out overnight. I wonder how many people there are in the US that would support a flag burning ban, that fly US flag at there house, day and night, rain or shine, until it is torn to pieces with faded color and they take it down throw it in the trash, and go buy another one at the $.05 & dime?
