Q:

We are coming out to Las Vegas for St Patrick's day. Is there any thing special going on, or is it just like any other weekend?

A:

Anything going on? Hmm, let's see. Drink specials all over the place, free music, Leprechaun look-alike and green Jell-o eating contests, roaming bag-pipers, beer pong on the Strip, and Carrot Top on the rampage? Yup, pretty much an average weekend here. Here's the lowdown, as currently confirmed (all events are on Saturday, unless othewise specified):

On Friday, March 16 from 5 p.m.-midnight, and from noon-midnight on St. Paddy's Day itself, O'Sheas, which is proudly billing itself as the only Irish casino on the Strip, is hosting an outdoor block party in the street between itself and the Flamingo. The event will feature live entertainment, drink specials, giveaways, and a beer pong tournament with cash prizes.

41st Annual St. Patrick's Day Festival at Henderson Event Center & Amphitheater, March 15-18. Admission's free and activities will include carnival rides, games, food, live entertainment, specialty arts, glass blowers. And don't forget the beer pavilion. Thurs. & Fri. 4 p.m.-midnight, Sat. & Sun. 11 a.m.-midnight.

It's also the 41st Annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner Dance at Fiesta Henderson, March 15 at 6 p.m. Admission is $50 per person, which includes cocktails, a buffet, beer specials, door prizes, a raffle, and a silent auction. Music by DJ Curtain & Irish Affair.

There's a big St. Patrick's Day Festival out at Lake Las Vegas on March 16 & 17. Admission's free and activities include Irish dance performances, Irish songs and storytelling, traditional food, and crafts.

Downtown Henderson hosts the 41st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17 beginning at 10 a.m., with Carrot Top peforming the role of Grand Marshal. The parade begins at E. Ocean St. and will continue to E. Victory Rd.

Fremont Street Experience is having a two-day celebration starting Friday March 16 at 6 p.m. with Graffiti playing on the 3rd Street stage. On Saturday March 17 at 2 p.m. they start the Leprechaun look-alike, Green Jell-o-eating, and Irish Jig contests. There will also be live music all day. Free.

JET, the nightclub at Mirage, will be celebrating with their annual "Shamrocks and Shenanigans" night, featuring staff attired in the hottest green outfits available and a specialty green cocktail of the night. Doors open at 10:30 p.m.

McCormick & Schmick's seafood festaurant (335 Howard Hughes Center) will be celebrating with holiday specials on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 starting at 5 p.m. each day. There will be live music, Irish drink specials featuring green beer, Guinness, Bushmills, and Baileys, not to mention traditional dishes like corned beef and cabbage and Irish stew. This year's celebration will also include a live radio remote with 97.1 The Point registering guests to win a meet and greet with Jay Leno.

Plus, the restaurant will also fete the city's cab drivers with their 3rd annual "Happy St. Cabby's Day," offering a complimentary breakfast between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. to cab drivers. Plus, if a cabbie stops by anytime before 5 p.m., he or she can also pick up a special gift certificate, while supplies last.

On St Patrick's Day, Fadó Irish Pub at Green Valley Ranch will feature various bands, including Finnegan's Wake at 3 p.m., Achtung Baby at 7 p.m., and Darby O'Gill and the Little People at 11 p.m., plus there will be food and drink specials all night.

Jack's Irish Pub at Palace Station will be serving a special Irish menu all day and will also have drink specials and live music.

Nine Fine Irishmen at New York-New York has 3 different bands play throughout the day, plus drink and food specials. Admission starts at $20 from opening time at 11 a.m. but expect the cover charge to go up during the day as the festivities proceed and the crowd expands.

Sean Patrick's on W. Flamingo (across from the DMV) says it'll be too crowded with revelers to have room for any bands to perform, but they will have the traveling bag-pipers will stop in a few times during the day. Phew. Plus, there will be food and drink specials all day, naturally.

JC Wooloughan's inside the Rampart will be having food and drink specials all day -- there's a $10 cover, which includes food. They're also joining forces with The Edge Lounge, jointly taking over a ballroom and turning it into a huge St. Patrick's Day bash, with bands the Wild Celts and Joshua Tree will performing Friday March 16 starting at 4 p.m. Thomas O’Keefe the bag-piper will also be there. Admission to the 3 room party is $20 and also includes food.

Brendan's Irish Pub in the Orleans will have Killian's Angels at their party and music provided by Wild Celts. Admission's free and the music starts at 5 p.m.

McMullan's Irish Pub next to the Orleans will have bands all day, starting at 1 p.m. Admission is $15 and activities will include Irish pipers and dancers inside and out.

Hennessey's on Fremont Street will feature Finnigan's Wig performing at 8 p.m., plus food & drink specials all night. Also, the downtown St Patrick's Day pub crawl on Friday 16 starts out from here at 6 p.m. with the next stop at Jillian's at 7:15 p.m., then Beauty Bar at 8 p.m.; Atomic Liquor at 8:45 p.m.; winding up, if you're still on your feet by then, at the Bunkhouse Saloon at 9:30 p.m. It's $20 per person, which buys you drink specials and various other goodies, and only 100 tickets will be sold, so get there early.

The St. Patrick's Day Dance at Charleston Heights Art Center takes place on March 17 from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Admission

Yea, we go out every year this weekend for the tourney, and getting lucky with the calendar that St. Pats day has been going on each year. It is a crazy weekend between the basketball and st. pats.

I like the plan for Saturday (mostly cause I'll be there already) - what time is that tourney?

You sure?

Well, we didn't finish the to-kill-ya and only polished off about 2/3 of the rum. Alas, the Luxor housekeeping staff probably took those bottles as a nice thank-you gift.

As for money, I donated about $200 to the poker table. Maybe more. :D Not a good run. Fortunately I'm on fire online so I've more than made that back.

As for women... well... it's Vegas. :D

Well, I get to the Nashville aiport around noon yesterday to meet a buddy who is flying to Vegas with me. My buddy tells me that its legal to bring alchol on an airplane. I tell him that that simply cannot be true. He convinces me to go buy a half dozen of the little airplane size bottles of whatever I want and just put it in my carry on bag. Whats the worst thing that can happen he says. So, I slip it in my carry on, and I will be Tinkers dam if it didnt work. Those minimum wage bag checkers didnt say a word as they were too busy having some grandma remove her shoes to check for concealed bunions. They didnt say a thing about it and I carried on 6 small bottles of Crown Royal, which I proceeded to guzzle like Irish at a semen fountain. Anyway, I had a roaring buzz by the time we got to Vegas. My buddy decided if I was bringing 6, he would bring 12 onto the plane. So he, myself, and some old dame who smelled of moth balls, bad cognac, and elderberries, and who looked like some washed up octogenarian actress from the 1930's, proceeded to get lit up over the course of the 3 and a half hour flight.

Limo picked us up and took us straight to the Rio. It was a "sorta cute" (please note: by "sorta cute", I am not using the I Like Soup "wildebeastian standard") twenty-something female limo driver who we took a shine to immediately. She was even nastier talking than me and gave us a few recommendations of what to do. She said she would accompany us to Saphires, which is her "favorite" strip, ur,uh, Gentlemans Club in town. She gave us her card and told us if we need "anything" to call her. I am still unsure what the word "anything" implies as it was said with much ambiguity. I plan to call my wife and ask her what she thinks it meant. :D Anyway, she was alot of fun and got us into the Vegas vibe right away. This chick said that she hangs out at the Red Rock. I asked her if she knew Crisp Irons but she didnt. Note to self: must check out Red Rock one of these days.

We are staying at the Rio this trip. This joint is a couple blocks off the strip and a favorite of mine from way back. The coctail waitresses and their skimpy outfits are legendary. We had reservations at the Foundation room atop the Mandalay Bay and had a couple hours to play before our dinner time. So, as soon as we got checked into our rooms, I went downstairs to play in the Rio poker room. I immediately got seated at a $2/$5 NL holdem table and I bought in for $500. Played about 2 hours until I had to go. It was one of those tables that you never want to leave. Half the table was drunk and more concerned about betting on the NCAA tourney games. No really skilled players at all. This was as soft a table as I have ever seen. And the people were all fun. I talked shi@te from the second I sat down until I had to leave and we all were just laughing our heads off. I bought in for $500 and ran it up to $900 before cashing out for $850 after a little less than 2 hours. I played TAG and it was very profitable and a fun table. The room is small and not impressive especially for a casino that owns the WSOP now. Dealers were friendly and competent. I did NOT want to leave, but had to go get ready for dinner.

The Foundation Room is a private club, affliated with the City Club, at the very top of Mandalay Bay. This place is off the f'n charts! Mandalay Bay is at the very south end of the strip so we sat out on the balcony with the most magnificient view of the entire strip looking north. It is amazing up there. The clientele was way cool, a very monied sophisticated set of folks. Lots of bling in that room for sure. I will have to take Furd and a SOBER Twiley to this place one day as they will be like a baby at its Mama's breast rubbing arms with these cosmopalitan jetsetters in argueably the nicest bar/restaurant in Vegas. We ate dinner up there as well and it was simply fantastic. We are supposed to go to Charlie Palmers on Friday night and Delmonicos on Sunday. I dont know how they could top the meal I had last night. Or the price! :D

After a few after dinner drinks in the bar, we got a car to take us back to the RIO. This time the driver was a dude and he didnt offer me "anything". Perhaps if Furd were here he may have been friendlier. I played some 4/8 limit poker which I suck at. Lost about $150 over the course of 2 hours and left. Played craps for another hour and broke even. I was just too drunk to think straight so I came up to the room and went to bed. I woke up at 4:00 which is 6:00 my time and cant go back to sleep. The view from my suite is incredible. I like this hotel for some reason. Its loud, garish, crude, and gawdy like me. I am supposed to meet up with TimC, Swampnuts, and XMRogers on Saturday night. I plan to play in the noon Caesars tournament today....

I have 2 words for you poker players: The RIO!! Fish are teaming in there like crazy. I did go play at the Treasure Island in a NL game that they spread at $1/$3. That game came recommended to me, because you can buy in for $500 instead of $300. That place is dominated by alot of young hip people and asians. This is not the place for me but guys like Furd would love this real mod sort of place. I lost $150 after a couple hours and left. One notable hand: I pick up pocket 7's in middle position and just limp. Button raises to $15, which I am preparing to call. SB folds. BB raises to $115. I fold. Flop comes 7 7 J

I played in the noon $80 buyin, $50 rebuy NL Holdem tourney at Caesars. I get to the 6th round, right before the break. I am at about 15k in chips. Last hand before the break I am on the button with the Rockets. Big stack at 25k smooth calls the $600 BB in early position. I raise to $2800. SB goes all in for $13k :D Big stack folds and I immediately call. I flip over my AA and he flips over 4 6 offsuit. :D He sucks out a straight on the river and I am crippled. This is the very nicely structured tourney though and I recommend.

I won $500 in the $2/$5 game at the Rio last night and anothe $1000 this morning in an hour. I have to go, more details later. Get your ass to the RIO for some easy money and to see some of the worst poker players in the history of the game.

nice - my buddy is a member of the Foundation Room- that place is sick. Always marvel at how off the charts the girls are there- even for Vegas standards. Place is legit. Will get to the Rio for some Hold Em, be down there 2x in May I think.

tip for ya- WSU and UCLA over - book it.

Incredible story that just happened. My buddy is getting ready to play in an invitation only blackjack tournament at the Paris, so we go over there and eat. We had a couple hours to kill before the tourney so we walk over to Ballys for some $1/$2 NL. I buy in for the max of $300. Half the table is local sharks, the other half are tourists. After an hour or so of play, I am about even. I am the button and get A J of spades. 2 limpers. I raise to $10. Both limpers call the raise. The flop K Q 10 all spades! I flopped a Royal Flush!! Ballys has high hand jackpots so they paid me $599 for the royal. I didnt make anymore from the pot but the $599 was sweet. I have never flopped a royal and had to keep checking my hole cards because I thought I was seeing things. It was amazing. I tipped the dealer $60 and the 2 guys in the hand with me $15 a piece. Does anyone know the odds of flopping a royal flush?

Played a little more there and then went to watch the Blackjack tourney. Blackjack is for the slows of the world. Boring and virtually unwatchable. I am back to the room hoping to take a nap. More later.

I bet on Georgetown and Vanderbilt.

The odds of hitting a royal flush when you start with two suited cards A-T is 19,599 to 1 Odds

PS - I like how they make the payout $599 so you don't have to fill out the tax forms.

Wow! It was pretty wild to flop that hand. Unfortunately, nobody would bet into me to make it more profitable but the jackpot was nice. When the Brush brought the money over and had me sign my name, I asked him if he was doing that so he could report it to the IRS. He said they make the jackpots $599 because they dont have to report anything under $600! :D

:D LMMFAO before you even get to Vegas. Sounds like you're having a great time. Can we at least get one crotch floss picture? You probably don't carry a camera around. If you have one, how bout a pic of the waitresses at RIO. :D

In my local tourney tonight, Iflopped quads... other guy in hand had pocket jacks and I could not get him to lead at the 5-5-4 flop.... then the K turn, which put 3 hearts out there slowed him even more.. at least he paid off my small river bet.
