I was wondering if you could recommend and stores in the Chicagoland area or online places that have fair prices. Thanks for any input. The Irish Doggy Posted April 11, 2007 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Thankfully, I inherited a diamond from my grandmother, so didn't have to go through too much hassle other than finding a trusted local jeweler to do the work. I think I spent a little more, but it was worth it to me since I was trusting an heirloom diamond to them. My only advice is too ask around, and don't go to the mall. I actually found shopping for a diamind to be surprisingly fun (getting to look at them under the magnifying glass, learning about the clarity and cut, etc.). Though I do have to admit my cheap ass spent less than 4 large for a ring my wife completely LOVES. So my experience would suggest find a jeweler who does custom work for a reasonable price, get a decent diamond and go with a custom band.
