Chavez
Historically under Belicheck, NE likes to work the short passing game (see "Brown, Troy"); with the massively talented - but also massively injury prone/inconsistent Moss/Stallworth manning the outside spots, is there any reason to think that hammeirng the ball inside to Welker 6-8 times a game won't be NEs' bread-and-butter in the passing game? I see nice value from this guy - he was decent value last year in Miami, and in NE he has better coaches and a better QB, and (arguably) better WRs to draw coverage out of the middle for him. Yes and no. The Pats looooove Welker - and adding him was hugh.... he does have potential, but then again, so do the other 1930819035 WRs on that team. Of course, with Moss on one side and Stallworth on the other, Welker could be big from the slot, as you mention. Color me perplexed and I'll probably avoid the Patriot offensive players - as good as this offense is - in fantasy drafts, unless they fall a bit. Agree with Darin - I think the whole Pat WR corps is too risky. Following Chavez's theory - who's to say it won't be Watson getting 6-8 attempts per game? They have the best QB in the league who is also the best at spreading it around - the Pats WR situation has "don't touch" written all over it as far as fantasy purposes go. Now Brady on the other hand......
Clubfoothead
I can't remember who was calling the game but the play-by-play guy loved Welker for much the same reasons darin mentioned. Guy said by the end of the year Welker would be the Pats leading WR. I don't know if he'll slide far enough for me to draft but he's on my lists. rattsass
Don't look now, but Gaffney has a shot at starting over Welker and Stallworth. Good luck to all those taking shots with Patriots WRs.
Jumbie
With the exception of Brady, Pats O players drive me nuts because the team plays games with the injury reports. You never know until game time who is really going to play. Pain in the ass.
CarryTheRock
I have welker in a Dynasty league where we have 25 man rosters and I think he is going to stay on as the last Wr spot. I have actually been thinking the Saints are going to become like the Pats as far as not knowing where the ball is going to be spread around from week to week. Savage Beatings
Until the game plan drastically changes in NE, I think that every WR there should be lowered significantly in their ratings. Yes, one or maybe a couple of them could produce very good FF numbers this season... but it is such a mind-fok each week to figure out who is healthy, who is starting, and who will be this week's go-to guy, that it simply isn't worth drafting one of them IMHO unless they slide WAY down in the draft. bushwacked
Thing about Furrey was Kitna targeted him a ton week after week, nearly the same as R. Williams if I remember correctly. Everyone knows how much the Pats tend to spread the ball around. That being said, I'm still struggling to rank Moss. What came first the chicken or the egg? Does Tom Brady spread the ball around so much because he wants to or because he never had a quality WR like Moss (or maybe even Stallworth for that matter). rattsass
What the hell happened to Chad Jackson? Exactly. There is no telling what will come of that mess. Draft Moss if you must, but I'd avoid all the others like the plague until the 16th round. 2nd on the depth chart or 4th on the depth chart probably won't make much difference. The pie will be cut in way too many pieces on this team.
isleseeya
Too many wr for the pats and too many scenarios ...I like moss and that's it until we see this play out a few games ..
giantsfan
Brady spreads the ball way too much to have top fantasy WR's. The only hope would be Moss because he is a big RZ target. But I think all their upsides are limited because of the spreading of the ball.
