Street Spirit - Radiohead.

Great call. Its not so much the lyrics but the music is very moving.

My call would be Lonesome Tears - Beck. Pretty much the entire Sea Change album is friggin down in the dumps. I think his girl dumped him right before he wrote the songs for that album.

That's sad for a different reason tho, ie it sucks so unbelievably much.

Anyway haven't read the replies but Pink Floyd and Neil Young should pretty much cover about 90% of the saddest songs ever.

.....OK......I expect very few here ever even heard these, but I'd add "River Runs Dry" by Bruce Hornsby and on the instrumental side, "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" and "Diamond Dust" by Jeff Beck.

You are aware that "Nothing Compares To You" was written by Prince, right? Therefore it is both incredibly cool AND incredibly ghey at the same time. Prince is one of the only artists in existence that is able to make this seeming contradiction happen.

"Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" from Les Miserables

"Memory" from Cats (it's the only good bit in that one, the rest is garbage)

"The Tigers Have Spoken" by Neko Case
