Poker Players Attending WCOFF

I am exchanging e-mails with one of the manager's at Treasure Island and am also going ot inquire with other room in Vegas.

Private cash games are not allowed, but, in theory if we filled the game at the start it would be just us, however any open seat would be filled from the list if there is one.

I'm going to find out about a private tournament.

But, I do need some idea of how many of you are interested in trying to set up a game, what sort of game(s) you want to play (actual games, cash or tourney and stakes) etc. so that I can have some detailed discussions with these managers. Right now I am thinking of trying to schedule something for the Saturday night after the get together (which I believe is going to be at the lounge bar at the TI, though the name escapes me)

So, please respond here if interested and give input to the above questions.

I'll do it.

Prefer a cash game first. Tourney second. I'm a wussy NLHE player who sticks with 1/2 for the time being. but I'd do a 3/6 for the occasion.

I assume you mean 1/2 or 3/6 LIMIT, not NL Blinds.

1/2 Blinds (well, 1/3 in many places now) usually is a $100-$300 buy in game, some rooms allow up to $500.

$2/5 blinds is usually the next level, and buyins are usually $300-$500 with many rooms allowing up to $1000 or even uncapped.

A few years ago Tom Franklin got knocked out of a big tournament on a horrible beat. This was in Tunica, MS. He stormed over to a poker table where I was sitting, ripped off his fanny pack, and pulled an enormous wad of hundreds out of it. A guy walked over and here's how the conversation went:

Guy: Hey Tom, we're thinking about starting a live game. Any interest?

Tom: What are you playing?

Guy: We were thinking of Pot Limit Omaha, or maybe some Triple Draw. . . .

Tom: Listen, I don't care what game we play, as long as we're playing as big as possible.

And I suggest you all do the same.

Why not just belly up in someone's hotel room and throw Snatch on in the background. 7 of us did that my last trip to Vegas and it was quite entertaining! :D

:wacko::D

the ONLY time you should be in yer room in Vegas is to sleep or bang out some snatch-

dudes sitting in their room playing poker?? now that sounds like a good time........................

1/3 NL would be best... cash or tourney, doesn't matter.... i like buying in with like $200....

I'm pretty similar. $200 is my high end, for sure. I'd love to do a $100 buy-in tourney style. Cash-in/-out just doesn't carry quite the drama for me. Blinds starting at 2/4 is about perfect for $100 buy-in.

P.S. I hope this happens. :D

Pfft...after three straight days of drinking and gambling in our crew, lets see how willing you are for a little more of a "quiet" evening mr. cat!

Here are the details on how this would work:

First, it is illegal for a casino to host a private cash game, so a straight cash game is off the books.

However, a workaround to this that I can get set up is to have a private tourney set up. Essentially something along the lines of $100 for 10,000 in chips and set the blinds at 100/200 or 100/300. The house fee would be $20 per person for 2 hours (then $5 per person for every half hour after that). Basically we get charged a time fee in lieu of a rake.

The catch is that the blinds will not go up, players can rebuy at any time (to whatever maximum we want to set, if any, I suggest we follow the normal house cash game rules of $100 minimum and $500 maximum), and every 100 in tournament chips can be cashed in for $1.00, so it is essentially a cash game, being played with tournament chips at 100 times the value to make it legal for the casino to host and to limit to just our select group. Dealers and cocktail staff can be tipped with the tourney chips (though, for ease, I may suggest each player chip in for a rack of $1 chips to be used for tipping cocktail staff and we agree on a fixed tip per down for the dealers).

The room will likely be busy that night, so they can not guarantee us a table will be available to start at peak night hours, unless we start early (around 6pm) or late, closerto 10-11pm and I would also need a commitment from enough of us to make it worthwhile so I do not look like an even bigger splashy cleanser to my contact at the room that will arrange this for us.

I'm about 50/50 on this right now. I like the numbers for buy-in and blinds, but that's kinda steep for a room rental fee. I'm not saying it's not fair from the casino's standpoint, but if we play for 5 hours, that's $50 per person (half the buy-in :D). That would be a pretty tough pill to swallow for everybody except the one or two who win big at the end. :D

Here's an important question: Would we have to pay for the drinks being served?

It may sound steep. but it is likely a lot cheaper than paying rake. A table of 9 pays $90 an hour in time charges. A typical table gets 30-35 hands an hour in, with an average rake right around $4 per hand, which comes to $120-$140 in rake. Even if there were only 25 hands averaging the $4 rake, that is still a $100 take in rake.

So, realistically we are better off with the time charge so long as we are provideing a full.. or near full table to make it worth the room's effort to provide us with the private table just for our group.

And drinks are still on the house... everything is just as if we are playing in the room, just that they would have a separate table set up for us. I'll need to get in with a fairly solid commitment in the next couple of weeks. And, as the Saturday night of opening weekend is usually very busy for them, we'd probably be best to time it to start after 9pm, probably after the get together at the TI lounge. Otehr option is to start early, say head over right after the WCOFF drafts and play before the meet up.

I would suggest before because you're going to split the group immediately if you do it after.
