It's a shame that you can't say what the funniest part of the movie was without ruining it for everyone. It works best when Ben Stiller is nowhere near the screen, which is most of the second half of the film. Robert Downey Jr might get an Oscar for his role.

I didn't really care to see this movie... until "rights groups" started protesting it. That made me think it might actually be funny.

I honestly believe that whipping mentally disable people into a frenzy and putting them on picket lines (some probably unaware of what is really going on) far more offensive than 'retard jokes' in a movie that apparently takes shots at just about everyone.

I'm seeing this FO SHO.

I'm wondering if it would be a good film to get stupid-drunk and then go see?

Careful, if you're too drunk the tards protesting the movie might be able to get the drop on you.

werd - Downey Jr. looks to be unreal in this role - I will be seeing this -

glad to hear Stiller is not on screen much, he is one of those guys that to me, is flat out is just not funny. He peaked with Something About Mary

There's an exchange between Stiller and Downey that is probably what they got in a frenzy about. It went to show how shallow and unconnected "the movie star" character is, and the dialogue Downey has about "going full retard" was quite accurate, even if cutting, and possibly offensive. Considering it's said by a white actor in blackface, one would think that irony would not be lost, but hey, they're retarded.

I was thinking it would be more like camouflage.

So you drool, touch youself, pick your nose and occassionally urinate on yourself when drunk? Remind me not to go drinking with you.

Hell, I do that when I'm sober. When I drink I do become a loud mouth. Wait, I do that when I'm sober too.

I think Zoolander is a very funny movie that doesn't get enough respect in comedy circles.

That said, Tropic Thunder is another funny effort by Stiller as director. His humor is often wrong and bit crude, but effective. If you are a comedy fan, this movie will probably be for you. If you are a movie buff who likes the occasional comedy, but it's not your favorite genre, I can see some not enjoying this film. It gets a solid B from me. Downey is the best thing about this film, but many of the actors get some props.

I'm told they use a Ritz Cracker instead of a Saltine...

It was pretty funny, but very crude and had tons of bad language. I don't mind some language in many movies, but I don't really care for a movie that uses bad language every fourth word of the movie. I give it a 2 1/2 stars, but it is defenitely NOT a date movie. I would recommend you seeing it with a bunch of buddies. Had a lot of funny parts, but my expectations were not as good as the hype I had been reading.

Soxette and I went Saturday and that would be my assessment as well. There was an older couple sitting right in front of us that walked out in disgust about halfway through.

I thought Tom Cruise was great as the studio head Les Grossman.

Solid, not spectacular. Just about any/everything Downey Jr does in this movie is absolute brilliance. Nolte is awesome as the grizzled Vietnam vet ("I don't know what sort of gun it is, I just know the sound it makes when it kills a man") and Cruise just rocks.

Stiller is just sort of there, for the most part, but one review I read said that while he's playing it with at least a semblance of sanity, while Black, Downey, and Cruise are just going ape with the scenery-chewing.

Probably not the worst idea.

You can't beat his first line - "who's the key grip? Walk over there and punch that f*cking director in the face!"
