peteteacher2001
So I was asking my middle schoolers the other day if they listened to motown music and they said, "Huh?". So it got me thinking how much my parents reared me on great music from the 60's and 70's and how much it has influenced my musical tastes and musical abilities. Question for the day. Your favorite Motown songs? In no particular order..... Smokey Robinson and the Miracles: Tracks of my tears Marvin Gaye: Got to give it up, Part 1 Jackson 5: ABC Junior Walker: Shotgun So many more but those are the ones that really stuck out in my head today!!! Gosh, so many kids growing up without this great music. I remember my parents dancing in the living room when I was itty bitty to What's Goin On by Marvin Gaye. Have a great weekend Huddlers, I'm off to Chicago for a friends CD release party. www.thelunabluesmachine.com check'em out.

Duchess Jack
Bernadette - Four Tops Sir Duke - Little Stevie Wonder Never Too Much - Luther Vandross Earth Wind and Fire - Boogie Wonderland Earth Wind and Fire - Fantasy they're not in order and I am making some big assumptions that Earth Wind and Fire and Luther are on the Motown Lable. If not I'd add some Commodores and Marvin Gaye Edited April 3, 2009 by Duchess Jack
yo mama
I've always been partial to 'Papa Was A Rollin' Stone.' The Temptations made it famous, but the song was actually written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong as a single for The Undisputed Truth about a year prior. i_am_the_swammi
Can't Get Enough of Your Love - Barry White Three Times a Lady - Commodores Midnight Train to Georgia - Gladys Night and the Pips Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Diana Ross Never Too Much - Luther Vandross not sure if some of these corss-over into general R&B, rather than a true Motown classification

Ursa Majoris
I've always been partial to 'Papa Was A Rollin' Stone.' Wonderful record and almost unique among Motown records because of it's length, certainly the well known ones. I second most of what's already been posted, especially Diana Ross, a voice dripping with raw sex.
jackshi17
On a side note. Temptations will be singing the National Anthem on Monday prior to the final game.

It was on the label. Another Motown oddity was R Dean Taylor's "Indiana Wants Me".

SheikYerbuti
Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye Rock Steady - Aretha Franklin A Change Is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke One More Chance - Jackson 5 Brickhouse - Commodores I didn't pick anything by Diana Ross or Stevie Wonder, because trying to pick one song is just silly. Just about any track off of Innervisions or Songs in the Key of Life would be deserving.
