SheikYerbuti
Hard to find, but The Meters redid Neil Young's "Birds" off of the After the Gold Rush album. It's heaven.

Clubfoothead
I didn't realize Hard to Handle was an Otis Redding remake.
Clubfoothead
This feels like a betrayal for some reason but Pavement's version of Killing Moon is better than the Echo & the Bunnymen version.
Ursa Majoris
I don't know.... Dave Van Ronk did a heck of a version back in '64. I knew I was forgetting a few - Frijid Pink's deafeningly loud rendition of HOTRS is awesome. Wish they'd made it longer.
Azazello1313
I thought it was Songs of the Poets or something. Â ahh yeah, that one is a later compilation. this is the one I was thinking of, I'm sure it's the same recording of the song.

Perchoutofwater
Janis Joplin Me and Bobby McGgee  First recorded by Rodger Miller   Don't forget Joplin's Ball 'n' Chain originally performed by Big Mama Thornton.
Puddy
Come Together-Aerosmith I thought about this one as well. Then realized the reason I liked it so much more than the Beatles version was that I heard it first and got comfortable with the cover before I had a chance to enjoy the original. My guess is that those who grew up on the Beatles version would vehemently disagree.

And, most people don't know that "Another Little Piece of My Heart" was originally by Erma Franklin, Aretha's sister.  I actually prefer the original to Janis' version. Kid Cid
Amazing Grace - Blind Boys of Alabama  I was going to mention this as well. My entre to their music was when a co-corker turned me on to one of their CDs. (I can't remember the name right now). They did a version of that tune where it was set to the music of the Animals' House of the Rising Sun. It so totally blew me away that I had to go and get my own recording of it. I bought 4 CDs with Amazing Grace on it before I found the right one.
