Three man golf games

Points game - Determine how much $ each point is worth.

Each person plays 6 holes with each other player as a partner and 6 holes individual. So it goes:

Holes 1-6: Player A + B (Best Ball) vs Player C

Holes 7-12: Player A vs Players B + C (Best Ball)

Holes 13-18: Player B vs Players A + C (Best Ball)

If a team wins a hole, each team member gets a point.

If an individual wins a hole, the individual gets 2 points.

You can push until teams change.

You can add points for KP, birdies, etc.

At the end, count up each players points and pay up.

We play Three Man Ticks. One tick = $1 (feel free to choose your own denomination)

Spin tees for honors. Winner plays normal stroke play versus the other two who play best ball. If the single player wins the hole, he gets three ticks. If the best ball team wins, they each get one tick.

Rotate through single players (Player #2 is the single on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17 and Player #3 is the single on holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18) for the entire round.

Also, for par 3 holes, any player who hits a green in regulation gets a tick.

Player with the least ticks pays the player with the most ticks the difference.

Used to play one called Wolf that was pretty fun. If I remember right, you take turns being the wolf... six holes each, basically. When you're the wolf, you can go on your own (hence the name), or choose one of the other two players as your partner for that hole. Keep track of points, based on holes won, although I can't remember exactly how that part worked. I do know that you got more points if you won a hole and you were the wolf (and had chosen to go on your own for that hole). Plus, there were carryovers for holes that pushed, etc. Pretty fun... sorry I can't remember the specific scoring or whatever. Works best if players are fairly even in talent level.

Other than that, if level of play varies, you can just agree on handicaps, and play skins. From my experience, getting three guys to agree to each other's HC is the hard part there, though. If one guy claims to be a 10, his friends probably say he's a 3-4.

Another one is called "Bingo, Bango, Bongo" or something like that. You play regular golf, but the first player on the green gets a point (no matter what stroke it is). First to hole a put gets a point... once again, no matter their score on the hold. I can't remember what determines the third point.

As you can tell, it's been a while since I played these (and there MAY have been some alcohol involved while playing them, from time to time).

Yup, very similar, except when we do it, everyone except the person with the most points pays. So, if A has 7 pts, B has 10 pts, and C has 14 pts, A pays B for 3 pts and C for 7 pts. B pays C for 4 pts.

Sounds like we're all describing the same game, except the wolf would get to choose whether to go it alone or not.

If you play skins, what makes it fun is pushing two or three holes in a row, so the 4th hole is worth 4 skins. We would also allow each other to "press", where you could essentially double-down if you got behind. So, if I lose 4 skins to player A, I could start a new game with that player, so there would essentially be two skins games going on... one between myself, player A, and player B... and the other between just player A and myself.

I'll play occasionally with some of the senior league guys at our course who have a couple of side games that can be fun no matter the skill level.

Kamikaze is a putting game. Any time you have a putt outside the flagstick, you can call Kamikaze before you putt. You make the putt you win a skin, miss it and two putt, it's a wash. If you 3-putt, you owe everyone else a skin. Sometimes they'll require you have to go Kamikaze once each 9, otherwise you owe everyone a skin.

Another game is Poker. Have a deck of cards along. Award cards for the score of each hole, example; a par you get to pull one card from the deck, birdie you get two cards, bogey no card, double bogey or worse you have to return a card. Best poker hand after 9 holes wins the pot.

Lone Wolf , must choose your partner before drives are hit. Bingo, Boingo Bongo, Long drive in fairway, first on, first in. Both good 3 or 4 man games. Skins is another decent game where handicaps dont matter as much.

VERY COOL, I WILL TRY THIS, TY

My only advice is if the game involves you as "Lucky Pierre", politely bow out of that one.

 Just kidding!

I think I would PIG you, which is if/when you pick me I would retaliate and PIG you, thus going Lone Wolf myself and it would be me doubling the bet against everyone in the group. BTW, Wolf is a 5 man game and definately not a 3 man game. LOLuck

and that Bingo Bango stuff sounds good, too  I will definately try that one. Basically, we gamble on anything that is cool like that b/c my local group gambled so much, we make snakes (3 putts) pay every player $5 as it is. Any new angles are appreciated. I like this post.

Not sure why... it works for three just as well as five. In fact, the math actually works out better, since each player gets six holes to be (or not to be) the wolf. With five, each players gets 3.6 turns each, or something like that. All I know is we played it with three all the time, and it was a lot of fun.

Thanks for refreshing my memory... forgot that long drive (in fairway was the Bingo part).

We play a version of this where the single player gets Granny. Granny is an automatic bogey. The points are awarded as one for low ball and one for low total the team gets the same points. An individual player can get a point for a birdie and a poley (putt longer than the flag stick.) We throw golf balls to see which land together to determine teams until everyone has had Granny.

We play Lone Wolf as well three man. Regardless of who goes wolf, the lone wolf either loses double points or gains double points. We also do low ball low total for each point. Lone wolf is their score double for low total. Lone wolf also has be beat everyone.

Their are numerous ways to play Bingo, Bango, Bongo, ie: closest to the pin, long put, longest drive in the fairway, first one.

We also play the snake. The last guy to three put before the turn and at the end of 18 has to buy a round.

We played the Bingo part was closest to the pin. On a long drive in the fairway, it may not get won if it had to be in the fairway. So closest to the pin is the way to go.

Only problem with this game is you absolutely have to play in the right order (who's furthest out) every shot, which can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

Thanks for the suggestions guys...we ended up playing a modified version of Wolf. Long drive on the whole is the Wolf and the hunters play best ball between the two of them. Winning as the Wolf pays double. Our group really enjoyed it.

That sounds like a fun modification of the game... Might really make people think twice about what club to hit off the tee, at least on certain holes. However, the thing that made the original version fun was having to choose (whether or not to go on your own) when you're the wolf. I guess either way has risk/reward... One involves choosing a partner or not, while the other has more to do with choice of clubs.

Yeah, the other version sound much more strategic. The best golfer out of the three was having a terrible day off off of the tee, so he was often one of the hunters which put a bit more pressure on the Wolf. I certainly want to try your version, as well.

We played a new game today. We met up in the parking lot, it was 38 degrees out, with 30 mph winds gusting to 40 mph. The occasional sleet. We all looked at each other and said ef this! Got in our cars and went to the casino instead. Actually that was yesterday. I just got home. I'm afraid to go to bed, cuz this is gonna freakin hurt in the morning.
