Think of Palin like a Howard Dean... someone who fires up the base and gets the money flowing, but who most likely wouldn't stand a chance in the General Election... so you put them behind the scenes (in effect marginalizing them) and you let that talent work for you instead of against you.

Got a reason why?

Because Saturday Night Live says so - Does not count

Lady got more brains in her little pinky than you got in your entire body.

Go to bed little sheep. Your the reason Obama the worthless one got elected.

Insert clueless for worthless and your still a sheep.

Your eyes musty be shut, little sheep

you must have been asleep

When Biden made her look like an ass

On national TV.

I decided to rhyme mine...

But, anyway, have you watched the debates? Have you watched the interviews? Have you fully digested her remarks? Do you understand that this woman has no foundation, no working knowledge, of global events or even of geography. She has no concept of diplomacy, her rhetorical skills are juvenile at best her logic elementary. She is not learned, she is not insightful, her grasp of right and wrong is skewed. She is immature and quite frankly of a lower order of intelligence than most politicians, which is akin to ascribing a lower order of intelligence to a particular species of fish. She has hoodwinked, bamboozled, the mindless masses of the republican grass roots organizations. She has curried their favor with biblical allusions, with her conservative stance on abortion, with her prattling commentary about the great abilities of hockey moms... She's a hick, the only difference between her and the barefoot, toothless, trailer dwelling, wench of the Alaskan wilds is her appearance... She's hot and that's all that people see. I hope she gets stampeded by a pack of wily moose.

Which is why you wouldn't want her to run for POTUS which presumably being the Party Chair would keep her from doing. But regardless of your opinion of her, you can't deny the fact that she draws big crowds and raises large sums of money wherever she goes. It would be a great idea for the GOP to tap into that ability for the good of the party, don't you think? Or are you too emotionally crippled by your personal feelings towards her to see the logic there?

right now, the party chair (particulrly if it were someone with the high profile of palin) is the closest thing the party has to a figurehead, who then becomes the primary target of the opposing party. giving them palin's leg to hump for the next several years is just playing right into fantasies of how they like to paint conservatives. it would make american politics that much stupider and caricaturish than it already is. I hate the idea. right now, the republican party needs a no-nonsense fiscal reformer to be the face of the party. like a chris christie or a paul ryan, or even the hunky playgirl guy with the truck, he is dreamy. not for the party chair necessarily, as they have other, probably more important jobs at the moment. hey, I wonder what bill owens is up to these days?

IMO, the GOP's problem is finding someone like this while, at the same time, convincing the party's "fringe" to get on board. Palin is as much a "Tea Party" spokesperson, as she is a GOP spokesperson. I'm not sure Republican can put forward a candidate of the like you suggest without alenating the tea party.

I definitely like the idea of a true fiscal conservative in that role! I wouldn't want it to be Christie or Ryan only because I'm hoping one (or both) of those guys will run for POTUS against Obama.

But the way that the Dems and the press react to Palin will always be the same... I really just don't see it getting any worse than it already is if she were to become the Party Chair. They keep trying to make Rush Limbaugh the head of the Republican Party, and it wouldn't be any different if they simply inserted Palin's name for Limbaugh's.

Either way, it would be great for them to boot Steele. He's worthless.

The GOP needs a centrist. Someone who can pull in the independents, centrist republicans and moderates that handed Obama his landslide victory.

It is mystifying to me how, when it was a pretty clear message that the far-right path was NOT effective, the GOP can continue allowing thier message to be pulled further and further right of center.

well for you, "tea party" is just derogatory shorthand for the GOP base. but I think it misses the mark. you have to look at the direction of the energy, as compared with past expressions the conservative base -- in which the tea party is MORE libertarian, MORE fiscally conservative, LESS socially conservative. I mean yeah, a lot of just plain old die-hard republicans get wrapped up in the "movement", and so people like palin, who appeal to the general base of the party, will fare well in straw polls and the like. but a guy like rand paul is more of an embodiment of what the tea party is all about (for better and/or worse) than someone like palin. and the guys I mentioned are all kind of heroes of the tea party movement.

but you know who I just thought of that would be pretty good for the job is mike huckabee. I didn't/don't like him as a candidate for president, but the guy is extremely well spoken. but getting back to the tea party thing, he certainly wouldn't be their ideal choice.

Huckabee appealed to me, as a solid left liberal. I could imagine he would also appeal to those same centrists I described above.

Palin as party chair has its positives and negatives.

Pro- Will pull in a lot of money and appeal to Tea Party people to make common cause with teh GOP. Plus she is purty to look at.

Con- Does the GOP NEED a lot of money to defeat Democrats in the next election? I think a lot of GOP candidates will beat Dems just over hatred of all things Obama. Having palin as a "enemy" might galvanize the Dem base and centrists AGAINST the Gop if they move further right and come back to hurt the party.

I see it as a direction of the GOP. Do they want to be more centric and attract pissed off independents that voted for Obama last election? Or do they move FURTHER right and hope that independents still like their message? Remember, 40% of the country votes for Republicans no matter what, and 40% votes for the Dems no matter what. the 20% that is in the center determines the winners.

Palin would be pandering to people that ALREADY would vote Republican in the next election, whether they call themselves Tea Partiers or not. It isnt like she is pulling in a new untapped pool of votes here, or swaying independents. She is representative of far right conservative Republicans. That doesnt make her very electable (like Buchanan found out) but it WOULD make for a decent figurehead to raise money.

The key would be to get her to read from the GOP playbook when making public speeches . . . at the risk of alienating her "folksy" base.

Honest question: Would you vote for her, Az?

I'm not talking about voting for her for any type of office, but I think putting her as chairman of the GOP would be a good move for fund raising.

 - I really don't understand what her allure is. Do they not in any way grasp that a portion of the reason why the election was lost was because of this dim wit being on the ticket?

McCain could've had anyone as his VP and Obama could've raped a nun (caught on tape) and the election would've still turned out the same.

First presidential election in which I did not cast a vote for a presidential candidate since '92... Why, Sarah Palin and Brak Obama. I am absolutely certain that many people changed there votes due to her. Maybe McCain still would have lost, but it would have been MUCH closer.

I love how it features Palin spouting out some of her nonsense catchphrases over swelling music and video of various Teabagger women being angry about that socialist black guy. America’s women have left the home and become politically active for the very first time, all because of America’s first female elected official, Sarah Palin

Palin appeals to people who hear and accept instead of actually thinking. The problem is that's most people. She appeals to feelings instead of facts. People are stupid. Palin will be in the White House in 2012.

I thought that might be the case. Well, in the world of reason, ideas like making Palin the GOP Party Chair actualy make a lot of sense. You'll have to take my word on that.

Bingo...Howard Dean anyone? They made Howie DNC chaiman and then hid his ass until the election was over.
