Do we fly flags for honoring other groups of people? Like is there a Black History month flag?

I'm all for equal rights, so if we don't fly flags for Mother's Day or Teacher's day, then this is just wrong.

racist. homophobe. blah etc.

PS telling quote from the link:

The Federal Reserve is a private operation and is not government run, but Cobb points out that it is simply following the nation's leadership in promoting a lifestyle that involves less than two percent of the population...
So much for equal treatment. But hey anyone paying attention has known for decades that "oppressed minorities" of any kind never really wanted equal treatment; they want preferential treatment. And our society has become so painfully stupid that they typically get it. Granted a gay flag (appropriately named btw) is a small and harmless enough thing itself, but the bigger issue is why try to glorify or promote it? Why not promote heterosexuality and people who actually decide to stay the gender they were born? Or here's an idea: don't try to promote or glorify any of it?

It's not promotion, it's awareness. You don't call it promoting the Blacks and Hispanics when speaking out against racism, why would this be any different? Intolerance is rife in this country and when someone tries to raise awareness of the issue people climb onto any soapbox they can and start yelling that the [fill in the group name here] are looking for preferential treatment. All they really want is equal treatment. All you want is the status quo so that you are free to keep treating them like second class citizens.

Definately not. Same goes for a lot of crap that minorities put up with from cats like BeeR. Clearly not equal treatment.

Whatever the case if I had the choice to remain a WASP or to become a minority and maybe, just maybe get hooked up because of affirmitive action, I'm picking the WASP option.

That was not the question. The question was are they looking for special treatment and the poster said they just want equal treatment. They do not. Frankly this race thing is getting old. The last presidential election proved that whites are farther along when it comes to racial attitudes than blacks. There is no other way to explain 98% of the vote going to one person.

So how do you explain 94% going to LBJ and then all democrats getting at least 85%+ since?

We may disagree but thx at least for a mature response. That said: no, it's not awareness. This society is plenty aware of every so-called oppressed group imaginable (Hollywood and the media, if nothing else, make sure of that); we don't need "National (whatever) Day/Week/Month" to remind us. As for tolerance, please. Our problem is far more often we are far TOO tolerant. This is not 1950. The (pick a so-called oppressed group) are in all walks of life both professionally and personally, with rare exception at most. In other words, generally speaking, THEY HAVE equal treatment, and if anything there is at least as much preferential treatment for them as the other way around. It's so typical of our society and human nature: we swing from one extreme to the other with a painful inability to stop at a common sense middle ground, instead embracing the brilliant idea that 2 wrongs make a right.

Yeah like expecting equal treatment vs preferential treatment for ANY demographic.

Of course whites will be further along in racial attitudes. They weren't the ones who had their relatives enslaved.

I thought in some states they could. Regardless, this deprives them how? They can have "civil unions" etc.

I think they should use separate bathrooms and water fountains, keep them out of the military, and not let them vote.
