At the risk of jinxing myself I figure I would let you all in on where I stand in the National contests.

I have 1 team that has made it threw in the Underdog BBM4 contest.  I started with 42 teams (max you can do is 150) and I had 8 make playoffs but advancing past the playoffs is very hard.  They put you in a random 16 team league and you must finish in 1st place in weeks 15 and 16 to reach the finals.

1 of my 8 teams made it through week 15 and also in week 16 advanced with a score of 161 ending out a CMC owner.

Underdog started with 677,000 teams and we are down to the final 441.........with 1st place taking home $3 Million.  The drop off in prizes is astounding 2nd pays nicely $1 million but if you fall to even 10th you are down to $30K.  441st pays $1,000 (cost was $25 entry)

Now the odds are not great especially with my team that has had only 1 QB and barely 2 RB's for most of the season yet somehow here I stand still alive.

This is also best ball so many teams will have much better players left.  I was carried by Amari Cooper and his 46 pts (this is half PPR)

My team

QB - Goff, Watson

RB - Kyrin Williams, Conner, Stevenson, AJ Dillon, McKinnon, Lamar Miller (odds are Stevenson is probably out)

WR - Diggs, Lamb, Amari Cooper, Kirk, Thielen, KJ Osborn, Curtis Samuel, Tillman

TE - Hockenson, Engram

I am currently 1st overall in the NFFC cutline contest.  1st place pays $75,000 if I can take it down.  I am currently the only person to have 2 of the final 12 teams left.

I actually won the wildcard round this week besting 110 teams and finishing 1st place which moved me into the championship finals.

I actually could have should have 3 of the final 12 teams I sat Amari Cooper on 1 of my teams and it cost myself a 3rd berth into final 12.

Cutline Championship - Championship Tier - Round 4

So while it was great to get the double finish at #1 overall and have 2 of the final 12 teams it will still be really tough to win this event.

I am also currently 9th place overall in the NFFC Online Championship (this was the league I won way back in 2012 to win the $100K as you all rooted me on that fateful night when it was a Sunday night as there was no Monday night game that year).  Well this week we once again will have no Monday night game for the first time since 2012 to end the fantasy season.  This year 1st place is $250K.

I could be in 3rd place right now but I played Indy D over Pitt D and that is all it takes 1 "mistake" to knock you down thousands.

Now I may be playing just for 2nd at best here as the guy in 1st has an incredible lead nearly 70 pts over me in 9th.

The NFFC Primetime I sit in 26th place (I was as high as 3rd at one point this year) and I could been sitting in 8th place right now but you guessed it that "1 mistake" cost me 20 pts I played Adams over Zeke it would been hard to sit Adams but KC has a great pass DEF and Zeke has been balling lately.

1st place $250K this one is a long shot being in 26th but you never know.

NFFC cutline currently in 1st and 4th place going into Sunday night.

Overall Standings - NFFC | High Stakes Fantasy Football (shgn.com)

Ironically in 2012 the first time I ever won a major championship it was when there was no Monday night final.

I finished 1st and 4th that night.  Tonight is a little different instead of trying to come from behind I am done and trying to hold 1st and 4th place.

I barely edged out 2nd place by less than 5 pts.  I am the only team in the field without CMC him going down with injury while destroying my chances to win other huddle championship it may have helped me cash 1st place and $75,000.

I am 70 pts up vs KJ Osborn

I am 79 pts up vs Aaron Jones + Jefferson

I am 90 pts up vs Chandler + Jayden Reed.

I feel good about my chances but you never know if Jefferson will throw up a 50 point game so I won't count my chickens yet.

Been 9 long years since I cased a Major title in 2014 this would feel good and help ease the pain of all the huddle championships I lost today.

Probably the most amazing thing about this team is I had to beat 109 other teams last week and finish in 1st place out of 110 teams to even get into this championship bracket.  Had I came in even 2nd place last week I would be not be here.  I had to beat 109 teams then beat 11 teams.

Well not quite the ride we all had in 2012, 2014 in victory and 2015 in defeat but I for sure will take an easy ride at the end after a very stressful early games to barely edge out 2nd place with both of us using all our bullets early on.

Been 9 long years I needed this one I was beginning to question if I would go on to ever win another major championship now that so many people play.

I would have been in 6th place in the NFFC Prime as well but I sat Adams for Swift that hurt that cost me about $10,000.  Such is life though.

I am just trying to hold 4th now to get the identical 2012 of 1st and 4th place on the final game which was also Sunday night in 2012 (SF/Sea).

The ironic this is this draft almost never happened I looked it up and it was on Saturday night/early Sunday morning on 8/20 at 12:09 AM ET which means it was nearly shut down they run their last draft at 11 PM ET and they left it open for some reason this night until it filled.  Crazy this draft nearly almost didn't happen.

Also the miracle of coming in 1st place out of 110 teams last week to even get this team to the final dance.  If I came in 2nd I would not have been here.

I scored a 220 in week 16 and a 190 this week.  All in all won by less than 5 pts.

I’m confused lol. How much did you win? Thanks for sharing, I was around in 2012 and 2014 it was awesome watching that unfold. I can’t even image what you felt watching it unfold as well.

I won $75,000 for 1st and another $15,000 for 4th place for a total of $90,000.

Thanks for asking.  Not quite the following I had back in 2012 and 2014 but considering this thing was basically over at 4:30 PM ET not surprising.  That was the crazy part to follow all those early games.  You know what I didn't even follow it.  I couldn't even do it.  I just watched football and waited until all the early games were over then I seen I had scored a 190 and I had no idea who anyone else had except I knew they all had CMC except my team 1st place team.  I opened it up and seen I was up 4 pts and was happy to see his team was done.  Then as I went down the teams I was up 70+ with anyone left at that point it was 99.9% I had it.

Congrats and well earned!

What stands out to me from the screenshot is that everyone in the top 12 all drafted early (10 were top 3 picks). Drafting from the 6 thru 12 spots were a huge disadvantage. They should fix that to even the playing field.

This league is actually only 10 teams.  This mainly was because this is a cutline league and when a guy like CMC goes off for 41 pts in week 16 that means either you had CMC and advanced or you didn't have CMC and got cut.  There is nothing to fix it was just 1 of those games.

10 of the top 12 teams had CMC (ironically my team that won it all did not have CMC) but my 4th place team did have CMC.

CMC leaving early was the reason my non CMC team was able to pull out the championship.

The other thing about this finish was no team could have had Lamb and his 41 points in week 17 because every team had a top 5 pick which mean no one was taking Lamb that early and no one was getting him to come back to them in the 2nd round.

Lucky for me I got St Brown at pick 16 in the 2nd round his TD with 23 seconds left was the difference between me winning it all and not winning it all in the end. (along with many other reasons)

Henry Muto Wins 2023 NFFC Cutline Championship & $75,000

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Jan 02, 2024 11:34 am

Henry Muto of Geneva, Ohio won the 2023 NFFC Cutline Championship and that $75,000 grand prize, becoming our 11th different national champion in the 11-year history of this contest. Henry beat a field of 1,720 teams to win the grand prize as his team was consistently at the top of the standings all year long. When the final table of 12 owners was completed on Sunday Night, Henry was standing at the top and holding the $75,000 grand prize.

This is a fun survivor-style contest where the field is whittled in half after Week 10 and then whittled further after Weeks 12, 14, 15 and 16. After Week 16, there is a "final table" of 12 owners battling for the vast majority of the prize pool. Henry actually had two teams in the Final 12 and those teams finished 1st and 4th overall. Well done Henry.

Henry has had good success in this contest in the past and he was ALL IN on this contest in 2023. He took 16 teams and won 7 league titles and finished second in two others, including this championship team. Nine teams made the Championship Round and 6 teams were in the Consolation Round. His Muskrats team finished the regular season in 204th place overall, but he had other teams that were 9th and 31st overall. In fact, this Muskrats team that won the $75,000 grand prize is a perfect example of how you can never give up in the NFFC Cutline Championship.

After the first "cut" in Week 12, Henry's Muskrats team was 42nd overall and four teams survived that first cut. All four teams survived the "cut" in Week 14 and his Muskrats team had moved up to 28th overall. Three of his teams survived the "cut" after Week 15, but this Muskrats team was NOT one of them as it finished 78th overall that week. It moved down to the Consolation Round, where its only shot at winning the grand prize would be winning the Consolation Round in Week 16.

And of course, that's exactly what happened. Henry's Wolves team won the Championship Round in Week 16 with 567.66 points and his Muskrats team won the Consolation Round with 556.46 points to jump back into the Championship Round. In Week 17, that team scored 190.25 points to win the $75,000 grand prize with a total of 536.95 points, finishing 4.92 points ahead of Wayne Culley, who won $20,000. Devin Heesch finished 3rd to win $17,500 and Henry finished 4th to win $15,000. All 12 finalists earned prize money, while we also paid the Top 12 finishers in the Wild Card Tier. David Webb won the Wild Card Tier to earn $3,000.

The Muskrats were led in Week 17 by Lamar Jackson's 49.55 points, but Henry also got 27.60 from Breece Hall and 22.10 from Amon Ra-St. Brown. His 190.25 points were 12.50 more points than Wayne Culley scored in Week 17 and the highest total from that week.

Henry Muto is a veteran NFFC player who first joined our contests in 2009. He now is a two-time national champion in the NFFC as he also won the $100,000 grand prize in the Rotowire Online Championship in 2012. He has battled for this Cutline title and come close to winning it multiple times, including last year when he was at the "final table" and finished 6th overall. He also finished 11th overall in 2021. But this year he had two shots at the top prize and won it with his Muskrats team, while finishing 4th overall with his other team. Well done Henry.

We will be back with the Cutline in 2024 with another $75,000 grand prize and we expect a bigger year for this contest. Best Ball leagues are flourishing throughout the industry, but no contest has the survivor-style format like we have in the NFFC Cutline Championship. Thanks all and congrats to everyone who won money in this contest.

What I couldn't figure out initially was how many teams you entered and what the return on investment was. You had 16 teams and had 2 teams in the top 12 out of 1,760 entrants? That's awfully good. I am assuming the entry fee was a few hundred? 1720 teams or so x $200 is around $350,000 prize pool. I don't know how much was paid out, but I'm guessing no more than $200,000 in prize money based on what you wrote.

Also congrats on winning that consolation bracket. 1 person out of 110 made it and you did, and it eventually won you $75,000.

Yes this was the most incredible part of the story if I even finish just 2nd out of 110 I don't go on to win it all.

The cost of entry is $175 per team. (I got small discounts along the way they do promotions throughout the year and I normally wait for those and I get a $20 discount on each team.)  So my cost was about $155 per team.  You get paid for finishing 1st in your league (I had 7 1st place for $350 each, plus 2 2nd places for $125 each).

I won $75K for 1st and $15K for 4th overall.

It is tough to make any money in this contest because winning your league you barely double your money and you have to beat 9 to get there so that isn't easy.

I had as good of a season as you could have in the regular season and I would barely made a profit if I didn't win a big prize.

Such is life in certain high stakes worlds.  My goal is always to win the big one as unlikely as that may be.

I was 1 lineup mistake from finishing 6th in the NFFC primetime main event and taking home another $10K but all it takes is 1 lineup mistake to derail an entire season.  I was as high as 3rd late in the year in this contest but my team had too much talent so much so I sat Adams week 17 (37 pts) and played Swift (7 pts) and I finished 26th overall.

Nope.  Do not use anything except gut feel for the most part and study ADP and draft according to what I think are values vs ADP.  In season my biggest mistake is looking at others rankings they lead me astray 75% of the time not joking either I have to learn to just never look and make my own decisions.  I am much better off.

The reason I took down the $75K is I went against rankings Kamara was listed very high in most rankings over Taylor I went Taylor anyway had I gone Kamara I am talking to you on how I finished 2nd and 4th instead of 1st and 4th.  You just can't go by "expert" rankings they are no more expert then you or I.  Seriously.

Seriously agree.

Interesting that you say this.  I agree with you.

I strongly suspect that many "experts" employ cut and paste from others as much or moreso than they engage in serious analysis or possess critical insight in their rankings.

I'd also frankly consider you an expert level at this stage.  Something I wouldnt for run of the mill me, so it depends on who the "you" is in your "you and I" statement above.
