CardinalEmpire.com
The Matt Moore Experiment sure was short-lived... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/foot....html?eref=sihp What does this mean for the run game? I can't see many teams respecting Claussen as a thrower.
Bronco Billy
This could be an epicly bad season for CAR. Picking Fox as the first HC to get walking papers this season is starting to look a lot more realistic.
Square
I think Clausen is an upgrade over Moore. He is still a rookie but he has some skills and ran a pro style offense in college. In fact, I've actually considered aiming for S. Smith (the old one) in some trades. It might be a decent time to buy low. Clausen seemed to throw to Smith a ton when he was in and let's face it.... who else are they going to throw to in Carolina?
MTSuper7
I have a feeling that the Panthers will turn things around this season with Clausen at the helm. I'm not deluded into thinking they can make the playoffs, but finishing 8-8 wouldn't surprise me. I certainly don't think this season will be an epic fail, as the team around Clausen isn't that bad (well, they could use a legit WR2 or legit pass catching TE). They'll have to go 8-6 with a rookie QB who hasn't been taking a lot of snaps for a month now, and with NO & ATL twice, CIN, BAL, & PIT left on the schedule. That presupposes they also beat CHI & SF as well as a road win against SEA. I don't see how CAR manages 6 wins, much less going .500. Rovers
Fox is in a tough spot. He has to know he's likely grooming Clausen for CAR's next head coach. Being on such a short leash, he must actually think Clausen is more likely to save his job than Moore is. I'm not unhappy, having Clausen in a couple of dynasty leagues with the likes of A Smith as my starter. I can see Fox trying to play this to his advantage. How is he expected to win with a rookie QB? wolfer
I don't think this is about Fox. Isn't this his last year under contract? Richardson doesn't want him. Whatever is going on, all he needs is a game manager behind center. It's cliche but with that rushing attack it's true. 6-16 isn't good enough, and this is 2 weeks in a row. I'm kind of a closet Panthers fan so this change is fine with me. Speaking of quick hooks, I believe Trent Edwards is gone as well?

Big Mac Bears
Guy in my league offered me DeAngelo Williams for Hightower today. Two weeks ago, I would have rubbed my eyes thinking I was seeing things. Now I actually have to think about it. Pretty sad for the Panthers. I'm a lifelong Bears fan living in N. Carolina so I have to live in this depressed area for the next year.
SeductiveNun
As a Williams owner I think I'm F'ed!! I'm fortunate that I also have Gore, Foster, Charles, and T. Jones on my bench. The Carolina offense has just been bad all around. I'm sitting Williams this week and see what happens with him down the road.

I know he is super frustrated with Charles. I'm hopeful he goes for this, as I think Charles has more upside. Because not only is Carolina's offense sputtering, but DeAngelo is probably going to end up at closer to a 60/40 split with Stewart. 60% of garbage is still garbage. The way I see it, the only way to offload DWill is to target someone else who has low value like Charles and hope for the best.

That presupposes they also beat CHI & SF as well as a road win against SEA. I don't see how CAR manages 6 wins, much less going .500. Yeah, I guess I'm overly optimistic. I guess I think Clausen is ready for this. As you'll see with my previous post, I'm not sold on the Panthers' offense even though I think DWill'ss value is likely to increase from here on out. I have DWill in a couple leagues, so I'm trying to move him in one league to hedge my bets. ETA: I think the Panthers get to 6 wins, and maybe they can split with ATL, and who knows... 7-9 definitely seems possible. I guess here's the path I can see 8-8 happening: 3 Sep 26 CIN @ CAR - Win (hey, the Bengals never look all that impressive, and nobody has much film on Clausen so maybe they surprise and the Bengals let down?) 4 Oct 03 CAR @ NO 5 Oct 10 CHI @ CAR 6 Bye 7 Oct 24 SF @ CAR - Win (the 49ers are Jekyll and Hyde enough for me to definitely see this happening) 8 Oct 31 CAR @ STL - Win 9 Nov 07 NO @ CAR 10 Nov 14 CAR @ TB - Win 11 Nov 21 BAL @ CAR 12 Nov 28 CAR @ CLE - Win 13 Dec 05 CAR @ SEA - Win (probably the biggest stretch on here after the Cincy game, as Seattle is a totally different team at home) 14 Dec 12 ATL @ CAR - Win 15 Dec 19 ARI @ CAR - Win 16 Dec 23 CAR @ PIT 17 Jan 02 CAR @ ATL Edited September 23, 2010 by MTSuper7
BearBroncos
As a Williams owner I think I'm F'ed!! I jumped ship and traded for an injured Mathews. I'll at least have some value from Mathews come next year.
Alec
Should I continue to start Steve Smith over guys like Malcom Floyd and Jeremy Maclin? Clausen seemed to do well getting the ball to Smith. Most likely, the Panthers will be playing from behind, so Smith could get some garbage points. How do you guys see Smith's status with this change?
WaterMan
Fox and his crew did a great job turning the defense around, but they never found a QB. It's pretty bad when in the history of your franchise your best QB was Kerry Collins.

Ideally, the Panthers want to lean on the ground game more with a rookie at the helm, but if they can't establish the run, who else is Clausen going to throw to? Smith should still get plenty of targets. Whether or not they are catchable targets and what he does with them, who knows.
mcrow
I may pick up Clausen if it doesn't cost me much. I think he's going to be decent, maybe on the same level as Bradford after a few starts. If your QB situation is garbage he may be worth taking a chance on if you can get him for nothing.
