Pope Flick
I've won a number of little contests by responding to local radio station contests. My dad pulled one of those WAY back in 1977. Took me to a Tuesday night screening of a film called Star Wars. It didn't open until that Friday, and talk about knowing something you couldn't explain to ANYONE for those 72 or so hours..... The audience chanted "Show It Again, Show It Again, Show It Again" until the fire department kicked everyone out. ANd I still have the "May the Force Be With You' button. Savage Beatings
Well I didn't get in. Waited in line for a couple of hours only to be turned away with about 100 other lucky contests winners. Guess they miscalculated.

i_am_the_swammi
at the risk of taking a board-beating... i think Jack is a tad passe', and a ton over-rated. Save for a few memorable roles, I never really thought he was the end-all to acting. I think the aura surrounding him glows brighter than the actor himself, IMO. I won't say that about his acting as a whole, but I've never thought he has held up well as the Joker, much less the film. I find it odd that most of his scens didn't involve close-ups - the camera always stayed far back. His wagging his ass on the ledge doesn't do it for me either. The whole thing reeked of a director running from his talent. As in "That first take was great Mr. Nicholson, would YOU like another one?" The best Joker moment wasn't even a line, it was the long barreled pistol sight gag when he shoots down the plane.

The Irish Doggy
a radio station over-booking a free advance screening of the most anticipated movie of the summer???? I'm sure they have a large percentage that usually doesn't show up to claim prizes, but that is pretty f*cking ridiculous in this case. They'll probably give him free tickets to Mama Mia as an added insult.

I remember walking out of the theater and looking up into the night sky for the still spinning Vader.
SheikYerbuti
at the risk of taking a board-beating... i think Jack is a tad passe', and a ton over-rated. Save for a few memorable roles, I never really thought he was the end-all to acting. I think the aura surrounding him glows brighter than the actor himself, IMO. Sheesh. . .what a board beater. (not quite sure what a board beater is). But seriously, I don't totally disagree with you. I think the thing about him is his approach to acting. Rather than transforming into the character he's playing, I think he transforms the characters into himself. I think he's just kinda turning all his roles into Jack. . .Jack in a romance (As Good As It Gets, Terms of Endearment), Jack as a General (A Few Good Men), Jack as a lunatic (The Shining, Batman, Easy Rider, Departed. . .man he's good at that one). In some films it works, in some it doesn't. But the one thing I think he always has is charisma, which makes him almost always watchable. I think there are actors who really camouflage themselves in their roles to the point where you hardly recognize them (Paul Giamatti, Gary Oldman, John Turturro are a few off the top of my head), and maybe they're more admirable for their chameleon-like ability to turn into the character. But Jack has an iconic stature that makes him awesome, and in good historical company. I think there have been many great actors who you see and recognize as 'themself', regardless of what role they're playing. For me, I think of guys like Jimmy Stewart, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken in this catagory.
