CaP'N GRuNGe
Kevin Williams reacts to Favre talk May 6th, 2009 – 1:24 PM by Chip Scoggins Vikings Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kevin Williams did an interview with Sirius NFL Radio with hosts Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan today and naturally was asked about the possibility of playing with Brett Favre. Here is what Williams said: “He’s a great guy. I think he just had a tough end to the season last year but he started out so well I think he definitely still can play. If he came back to our team and [is] going to help us we’d definitely want to take him. “Me and Brett had a pretty cool relationship. We’d laugh and giggle in between plays and stuff like that [saying] he needed to hold onto the ball a little longer so we could get to him.” Posted in Main | 5 Comments » Childress, Favre meeting set May 6th, 2009 – 12:46 PM by Judd Zulgad Vikings coach Brad Childress is expected to depart for Mississippi later today and meet with quarterback Brett Favre tonight and Thursday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Childress remained at Winter Park early this afternoon but the source said he is expected to have dinner with Favre this evening and begin discussions about Favre joining the Vikings. The in-depth portion of the meeting is expected to take place Thursday. Among the Vikings’ chief concerns is the status of Favre’s injured right biceps. At this point, the meeting is expected to take place in Mississippi, where Favre lives. Favre, the longtime Green Bay Packers star, was granted his release from the Jets’ reserve/retired list last week and thus is free to sign with any team he wants. Favre announced his retirement for a second consecutive offseason in February after a season with the Jets. Favre retired in March 2008 from the Packers but changed his mind. The Packers did not want him back and at that point he set his sights on playing for the Vikings. The Packers made sure that didn’t happen by trading Favre to New York. Randall
Ted Thompson didn't beg Brett to come back and we all know what that led to. I'd suggest Childress get down on his knees and tell Brett how wonderful he is . Then tell Favre without him they will never win a Super Bowl. Naming a street after him would be a nice touch too. Randall
I couldn't decide which Favre thread to put this in. From Yahoo Source: Favre rebuffs Vikings, will stay retired By Rick Schwartz, Yahoo! Sports 44 minutes ago The Minnesota Vikings will not sign free-agent quarterback Brett Favre(notes), a source close to the team told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday. The source said Favre told Vikings coach Brad Childress that he wanted to remain retired in a phone call that took place sometime in the last day. Favre is expected to publicly explain his decision soon. Favre, who announced his first retirement in March 2008 after spending 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, decided to resume his career last summer and was traded to the New York Jets in August. After one season in New York, Favre retired again and was subsequently released by the Jets on April 29. Just days after his release from the Jets, speculation began that the Vikings were interested in bringing in a veteran to compete with Sage Rosenfels(notes), who was acquired this offseason from the Houston Texans. Rosenfels is atop the depth chart heading into training camp, with Tarvaris Jackson and John David Booty(notes) also on the roster.

If this is true than the Vikes sure screwed themselves on this entire fiasco. They have players saying that they want Favre on the team and now it's back to nothing ever happened? None of this circus act ever had to happen in the first place.

Randall
I read earlier Childress was supposed to be down yesterday and today but was seen at the facility early. Maybe Brett realized in talking to Childress this was not a good idea. EDIT NFL Live is saying this happened in a phone call with Childress. Cook said Brett hasn't even thrown a football in some time so he doesn't know how the arm is. Maybe the arm isn't good and Brett doesn't want surgery. Another had Childress behind a grassy knoll.
CaP'N GRuNGe
Guys on the local sports radio here yesterday were painting a picture of the two sitting in Brett's yard finishing a case of beer, complete with the drawing up plays on napkins and "i want to play for you man" type drunken comments. It was a pretty funny thing to imagine.
