Robash
Its hard to imagine the g-men minus tiki, but it appears that the team is in good hands when he decides to stop playing. Ive been reading up alot lately on brandon jacobs and i like what i see so far. this was taken from giants.com in an article about thier practice with the jets today The Giants delivered their share of hard hits. The best might have been come from rookie running back Brandon Jacobs, who blasted Pete Hunter and knocked him back five yards when the cornerback came up to make a hit during a team period late in the workout. “I could have gone around him, but it was cut-and-dried for me right there,” Jacobs said. “It was a nice little run, so I didn’t want to waste any energy going around him. (Hitting him head on) kind of saves energy.”
spain
The question is how much will Jacobs vulture from Tiki this year..
Robash
good point, allthough one could argue that it wont have that big an effect on tiki's goal line TD's as giants goal line td's were non existant last year.

He'll cut down on the number of carries per game Tiki gets and whatever, if any goal line carries he would have gotten. Other than that, if Tiki stays healthy that'll be it. Unless Jacobs turns into some kind of monster that the coaches just can't keep off the field. I think it's fair to say he isn't that good. But, I've been know to be wrong... from time to time. Dr. Rock
I find him intriguing. A lot of people don't expect much from him because he came from D-2 Southern Illinois, and "if he was any good, why couldn't he have made it at a real football school?". I was one of those people too, before he was drafted. Then I found out that he actually had been recruited by Auburn.. and only left there because he was sort of stuck behind two other RBs you may have heard of - you know, the two who each went top 5 this year? And I guess he could have transferred to another D-1 school, but if he went D-2 he wouldn't have had to sit out a year. As far as his impact on Tiki, some have tried to make him out to be the new "Thunder" to Tiki's "Lightning". I don't think that is the case. When they first tried that in 2000, Tiki wasn't quite established as a star yet, and I believe they wanted the load between Dayne and Tiki to be 50/50. But now, Tiki is the MAN. So while I do think Jacobs will vulture a few TDs, I think overall it will keep Tiki a little fresher, which will be a huge help over the season's long haul. polksalet
i watched him at Auburn and I do not believe he will make it big in the NFL. he is essentially Julius Peppers playing rb. While the size has advantages he is a gigantic target. he literally makes Bettis look small. I don't look for much out of him other than vulturing. timberho27
I don't see him "vulturing" too much either, Tiki was rarely used as a goaline back last season, even though when used he did just fine. Coughlin has been looking for a short yardage back since he's been here and it looks like he's found one. Reading reviews out of giants camp people have been suprised by his versatility and his ability to run like an every down back. He's built like a big linebacker, so hopefully picking up those 1 yard situations will work out for the giants this year, but I definetly would not be calling him tiki's heir apparent after 2 weeks of training camp. Lets remember, last year dayne looked like a "new man" coming into camp, he had some huge games in the preseason too, but as soon as the season started he gave us squat. GhostRiders
From what I have read in the Newark Star-ledger, Jacobs has been all but given the short yardage and goalline duties. I am expecting that Jacobs will steal TD's from Tiki this year. Supposedly Jacobs is a decent pass receiver as well, and would make a big target near the red zone. For that matter, the Giants weren't effective inside the 20, so any success Jacobs has there will not hurt Tiki much and will actually keep him fresh. Robash
12-72 0td's, anyone see the game, how did he look?
Deacon Bill
12-72 0td's, anyone see the game, how did he look? 926655[/snapback] He played almost the entire game. He looked great, albeit against one of the worst ranked defenses at stopping the run.
GhostRiders
Giant's running game in general looked very good. However Jacobs looked very good. Don't discount the impact that Jacobs will have on Tiki's numbers this year, particularly TD's.

Vet
If Jacobs can just play against Cleveland's third string all year, this guy is going to be great! Just kidding. Actually, I'm thinking of taking a flyer on this guy in my dynasty league. Tiki has been throwing the "R" word around (retirement) this off season and most recently on Mike & the Mad Dog earlier this week. He's saying this could be his last year and he wants to get into broadcasting. I expect he'll probably play a couple more years, but he's not the type who will hang around and take a beating into his mid-30s. In a redraft league, I'd only take Jacobs if I had the extra roster space to handcuff him to Tiki.
jgcoach
Jacobs ran very well, although it was Cleveland. He'll still be there for short yardage, goal line and to give Tiki a break. Anything over and above that will be only if there's an injury. While he did look good don't forget it's preseason. He did surprise me with the little showing of some speed for his size. Definitely will push the pile and could turn into a big surprise but, I don't think it'll be this year and possibly not even next unless Tiki wants out. Look for about 8-10 carries a game. In deeper leagues he may be a good bye week filler with goal line carries. He'll do a little damage to Tiki's numbers but I don't think he'll hurt him that much, this year. paydirt
I seen some clips of Jacobs play from last night, a number of his runs were simply to daylight but holy shucks at 260lbs can this guy run. The knock on him is his upright running style which at 6'-4" makes him a large target. I understand the Giants have him penciled in as a short yardage/goalline specialist, for this role he'll need to learn to lower his pads. As the season wears on he'll make a dent in Barber's numbers, I wouldn't be suprised to see him with around 100 touches by seasons end.
