pseudolefty
Here's the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2280247 This guy was an exciting player. Obviously, there were a handful of other worthy candidates (Thurman, Totupu, and Ware).
Piranha
I thought Merriman deserved it.
Goopster24
I like this guy but I think Totupu did more. Game to game he was more solid than Merriman. Merriman had certain flashes of brilliance but he never sustained it game to game. Its Defensive Rookie of the YEAR not "every few games". Sgt. Ryan
Just like the Heisman they gave the award to the flashiest player who had big games late. Lofa was more consistent the whole season and made a huge impact. But Merriman showed flashes of his ability late in the season.
Vote Quimby2
I was hoping Tatupu would get it, but after the Colts game figured Merriman would get it. Both are good choices.
muck
If it weren't for Merriman, Larry Johnson would not have had the opportunity he had in the second half of the season, fwiw...
nogohawk
I was hoping on Odell Thurman or Lofa Tatupu (just because I have them both in my IDP league!).
darin3
I was hoping on Odell Thurman or Lofa Tatupu (just because I have them both in my IDP league!). 1247846 I think they deserved it more than Merriman. And I'm a Bolts fan/supporter. Merriman acted like a clown in preseason and only came on strong at the end. Both Tatupu and Thurman elevated their respective defensive units to new heights this season.
Clubfoothead
43 solo, 14 assists, 10 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Looks good to me.
Selly
85 solo, 19 assists, 4 sacks, 3 picks for Tatupu 64 solo, 34 assists, 1.5 sacks, 5 picks, 4 forced fumbles for Thurman Just for comparision's sake.

Looks good to me. 1247914 Not much different that Ware's 47 solo, 11 assists, 8 sacks and 3 forced fumbles, and 1 pass defended. Still I think Tatupa should have gotten it over both Ware and Merriman.

Maybe I caught more Chargers games down the stretch but that 10 sacks is rather impressive.

"Both Tatupu and Thurman elevated their respective defensive units to new heights this season." This is so true. People fail to realize this. Seriously man, you are so right about what you said. 1248100 I was just bustin' your chops. Merriman was brought in to be a sack specialist, and he surely accomplished what they set out for him. No knock on him; he's gonna be a force for years to come. I'm glad he's a Bolt (although his pre-season antics were bad news). But both Thurman and Tatupu were completely unheralded and led defenses that were supposed to be somewhat improved... but not to this level. They lead to picks and scores.

It takes a great all-around game, like Thurman's or Tatupu's (and to some degree Merriman's) to be a defensive stud and have merit for ROY. He said "sacks don't make a defensive player" and the way I read it he didn't think it was in the top 5 of importance. Without clarity I can't see what he thinks is more important. If I read it wrong I'm sorry.
