wiegie
some of his opening monologue jokes didn't go over too well (which made me find them even more amusing) Edited March 6, 2006 by wiegie
dukdown
Man, you can't be serious. That was great stuff. He will definitely be invited back. That was no "Oprah-Uma, Uma-Oprah" at all. The Cowboy montage was hilarious.
wiegie
Man, you can't be serious. That was great stuff. 1353012 I thought it was great stuff--but the audience seemed luke-warm at best to a few of his jokes.
Czarina
I didn't see it. What was the faux pas?
wiegie
I didn't see it. What was the faux pas? 1353093 no faux pas, just a few early jokes that seemed to go over flat
Chargerz
My wife and I are thinking he's doing a pretty good job (and we don't know his work all that well). Certainly alot better than some past MC's (Letterman comes to mind.)
untateve
but it's beef battle on Iron Chef--the steak sandwich made by flay looks good
Sweetlips
I think he did a great job. The joke that didnt go over well was the Hollywood crowd being out of touch with the real world. Its too true. I still think he will be invited back.
wiegie
I liked how Jon Stewart called the crowd out on not being as excited as the Three 6 Mafia. I still don't think they will have him back next year. (and for the record, I like Stewart and he has been cracking me up all night--I just don't think the Academy shares my sense of humor)

I thought it was pretty good.

Unfortunately, no one has re-discovered the early 80s revelation that gratuitous nudity sells, too.

Not his fault, but he seems struggling up there. I liked the "I think it just got a little easier for a pimp....". EDIT: And the cowboy montage at the beginning was absolutely hilarious. dukdown
I think Jon Stewart has a job for life if he wants it. His written material, the film montages, and his ad-libs couldn't have been any better. He took one of the biggest rooms there is, and looked very natural without any comprimise. All the reviews on his performance I can guarantee will be top-flight. Edited March 6, 2006 by dukdown

wiegie
let me be perfectly clear here--this post was not about criticizing Jon Stewart, it was about criticizing the "academy" (I think they should bring him back next year, I just don't think they will)
Randall
"Although, as an avid watcher of the Oscars, I can't help but be a little disappointed with the choice." -John Stewart Reminds me of the Groucho quote "I wouldn't want to belong to a club that would have someone like me as a member"
