What are you smoking? The Chargers are talented from top to bottom with Pro Bowlers. Sure LT is the MVP of the league but that doesn't mean they are a one pony show. The difference maker in this game was coaching. Belicheck kept his team close and gave them a chance to win, Marty kept his team from winning as he always seems to do come playoff time. Seriously, what does Marty bring to the table at this stage in his career? He's won a lot of regular season games but has tanked in the playoffs with some good teams. He's proven time and time again he doesn't have what it takes during the playoffs and that can't be disputed. It's time for the Chargers to go in a different direction and reach their potential.

No, the difference-maker in this game was the inept Chargers passing game. LT was their leading receiver and Gates as a non-factor in the red zone. Rivers only completed 14 passes, turned the ball over twice, and took two sacks that took them out of FG range.

Um...no. They are a one-trick pony, as you have seen yet again today. Granted the pony has another couple of very minor tricks but if you're that reliant on one man, you ain't the best team. How do you blame Schottenheimer for that personal foul that kept the NE drive going? What about the INT immediately followed by the fumble? These all his fault?

And, as Chavez asked, who replaces him? You seen the crud that's going door to door on the NFLs annual coaching tour?

no he will not be and should be fired but he he was Mooch would replace him

...and who would take them there?

I'm sure Nick Saban could be lured for about $4.5 million, but beyond that.....

Marty cost them a valuable time out by challenging a play that that wasn't even close. That time out could have helped in their final drive. Even with that, with 8 seconds left, I think others would have tried for a quick pass to get a few more yards than hoping the kicker can pull out a 54 yarder.

Was LT hurt at the end of the game, because he seemed to be used less and less as a RB.....

Unfortunately I'm not smoking anything but if you think the Chargers are the new SF 49ers you're obviously easily satisfied. I picked NE to win and they did, despite not being at the top of their game either. The difference in this game was the inadequacy of SD players not named Tomlinson.

I'm not saying Marty is the world's greatest coach either but knee jerk reactions howling about the coach are not always right. Who was the coach while the "talented from top to bottom" Chargers were compiling their 13-3 record, BTW?

I'm not sure Marty should be fired, but going for it on 4th and 11 in the 1st was kinda odd. :D Why not pin 'em deep and play field position?

This game was just another case of a great team being off too long and facing a battle hardened team. :D

Marty will be back, Rivers and their passing game will get better and they'll continue to be a threat as long as LT stays healthy.

Beats me. Marty was the coach while they were compiling a 14-2 record. :D

This loss is not on Marty at all.The Chargers were by far the better team. The difference is Tom Brady over a first year starter in Philip Rivers.I am not a Patriots fan, but Brady is the best big game QB in the history of the game.He did not play well at all but still found a way to win. This was a win of experience over talent for sure.Troy Brown showed this by stripping the ball after the INT.That is one of the biggest plays I have ever seen a player make in a playoff game.

Obviously the turnovers did in the Chargers but hey the coach always takes much of the blame when teams play sloppy and make mental mistakes. The Chargers played tight and differently from how they played most of the regular season.

You must be evaluating a Charger team from another year. On defense they shut down the run, have a solid secondary (this year) and led the league in sacks. On offense they have a very solid O-line and three Pro Bowlers in LT, Brees and Gates. In total I think they have 8 or more Pro Bowlers. So tell me, how are they not a talented team from top to bottom? The Chargers assembled an awesome team this year that should have won the SB. The only thing they need is a coach to take them over the top. Marty ain't that guy and keeps proving that over and over again with his losing playoff teams. This team will only be remembered from what happened in the playoffs. That 14-2 regular season record already feels like a distant memory. I don't know how they can bring Marty back. That's right up there with the Giants bring Coughlin back......

I agree with the Brady assessment. Did anyone catch the shots of Brady on the sideline during the 4th qtr? You could see Brady walking around talking to his team telling them it was going to be all right. After the Pats kicked their last field goal, they showed Rivers walk away from the field and flip his hat sideways. The body language images were enough to tell who was the seasoned vet and seasoned winner.

Sometimes I do think that Brady is like 007 and one of the luckiest SOB's ever though. You see it over and over again with the famous tuck/fumble play and today's interception and Brown fumble recovery, the guy is just one lucky cat. I can't complain though, because even the best Joe Montana caught a break when Billups(Cincy) dropped a gift int. during the SB a few plays before he hit Taylor for the win.

You're right on here but superior coaching allows a team like the Pats to beat a superior team like the Chargers on their home field. Anybody who watched today's game could see the Chargers were more talented, faster, etc. but Belicheck & Brady found a way. You gotta tip your hat but also must realize that Marty just doesn't cut it.

He didnt fumble a punt or fumble an INT. Those 2 mistakes alone gave NE the chance to win this game.

BTW, Merriman aint the same without the roids.

I was rooting for SD in this game, because I love their offense, but if any part of me wanted them to lose, its because Merriman is on that roster.

Give it a rest. He was clean the ENTIRE season. You're just sore the Cowboys chose the wrong guy! :D

What seems to be lost in this discussion is that Marty gave up all of the play-calling duties to his coordinators. So, how is he to blame for this one?

He may not call the specific play for every down, but you think at some point he should got on the head set to Cameron and said, "Hey, how about running LT a little?"

If he has no say in play calling, why is he there? Couldn't they just have an OC and a DC and they make their own game plans? Obviously, Marty plays a roll in something. If he doesn't then he should be fired because he's not needed. Either way, he's gotta go.

They were on NE's 31 yard line when he went for it on 4th and 11. Why not kick a freekin' 48 yard FG?

You have the AFC pro bowl kicker on your squad, dont you? :D
