Providence, Rhode Island--anything good to do there?

I think the House of Seven Gables is there.

IIRC HP Lovecraft's home is still standing as well (for those who have a life, HP Lovecraft is second only to Poe on the modern horror short story; many of his stories take place in Arkham, and feature Miskatonic University, otherwise known as "Providence" and "Brown.")

Our company owns the Westin, Hilton, and Raddison hotels there...are you staying at my pad? Let me know how our condo tower looks next to the Westin...scheduled to open this summer.

As far as things to do, not a whole lot of nightlife that is indiginous to Providence. Typical college bars near Brown and Johnson & Wales. You'll like the city tho...mini-Boston in terms of ambiance.

If you are into gaming, head south on I-95 about 40 minutes to the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos, just over the border in CT...some of the best on the East Coast.

Nice!

We just finished a full rennovation of the hotel about two months ago (used to be a dilapdated Holiday Inn). Haven't been up to see the finished product yet, but I heard the new Shula's Steakhouse is packing them in!

When completely finished, you'll be able to walk from the Hilton all the way to the mall (via the Civic Center and Westin) without stepping outside.

Hope the hospitality was good...enjoy the visit!

X The house of 7 Gables is in Massachusetts.

You might have luck on the Lovecraft/Poe thing though. I wrote a lengthy paper on Lovecraft back in the day. :D

The Roger Williams Park Zoo is nice. The Providence area is 'connected'...so you might get some good Italian food somewheres around there. Watch out for the pizza though...a friend of ours is from RI and his family brought "pizza" to a party. It was crust with sauce and NO cheese. :D

I'll be in Providence for a conference from tomorrow until Saturday morning. Anything interesting that I should do while I am there?

Eat on Federal Hill if you like Italian food. Lots of great restaurants in Providence, and lots of great bars as well.

Visit Fantasies if you like Adult Entertainment. The Foxy lady is over rated. Cheaters is dirty...if that's what you are into.

Roger Williams Zoo (as someone mentioned) is a nice zoo.

The Patriots Proshop at Gillette Stadium is only about 30 minutes north. :D

Oh, and the Trinity Brew House is almost right across the street from you. :D:tup: for the Imperial Russian Stout!

You missed Third Eye Blind at Lupo's last weekend...this friday it's a Sublime tribut band called Badfish. If you are interested, http://www.lupos.com/Lcal.html

I don't hang out in Providence very often except for dinner occasionally...so that's the best I have for you.

Well, let's see... RI kinda s*cks. And I can say that since I lived there for 10 years and still visit on occassion. During the summer its fun to hang around the bay, but otherwise...

You could frequent a Dunkin Donuts. And I do mean frequent since there are about 5,000 of them in RI.

You could drive down to Galilee and get some clam chowda and clam cakes.

You could sip on a Del's frozen lemonade. Not sure if the stands are open yet - maybe after Memorial Day.

D'Angelo sub shops are pretty good for a grinda - much better than Subway.

Caserta's Pizza in Silver Lake used to be great years back - not sure if it still is.

I can't believe the Foxy Lady is still there. I have some funny memories from that particular establishment...!!

Christina Aguilara had a concert here last night and the hotel was full of completely wasted skankerific 19 year-olds.

I'm going to head to the Trinity Brew House tonight and over to Federal Hill tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice.
