armchairwarrior
If Portis stays healthy what are the chances that he loses a significant amount of carries to Betts. I see him as a potential 2RB who ends the season as a top 5 RB pending health and not sharing carries with Betts. Brownsfan420
I'm going to avoid Portis this year. While he has great talent and may have a great year, the Skins offense has been very poor and it looks like Chris Samuels may be a little hobbled. Add to that a new QB, and it doesn't look to good for the running game. If you can get Betts in the 5th or 6th, jump on him.

piratesownninjas
With his chronic problem, I would rather have Betts as a 4 or 5RB. Chronic? He dislocated his shoulder, then later broke his hand. To unrelated injuries. As far as tendonitis, thats not a permanent injury. Dr. James Andrews said that it is getting better. As far as Betts cutting into his carries, I see Portis getting 260 rushing, which is right about where he needs to be. He'll also have the bulk of the catches out of the backfield... Add that with his nose for the endzone, and I love him as a RB2...
Big Score 1
As far as tendonitis, thats not a permanent injury. I think Dorsey Levens would disagree with you.
piratesownninjas
I think Dorsey Levens would disagree with you. If treated properly, you can rid yourself of it. I'm an active musician who had it in one of plucking hand, which as a fingerstyle bassist could be devistating. Instead, I took care of it, and I'm fine. Dr. James Andrews also seems to think the same thing as I... I'll take Andrews opinion of Levins any day of the week.
Bronco Billy
Portis when health is one of the top 5-6 talents at RB in the NFL. Â Given that, it's impossible to ignore a RB who ran for 100+ yds in 5 straight games, just missing a 6th straight in his last game of the year, and put up 152+ total yds in 4 straight games, again just missing that mark in 5 straight games at the end of the year. Â It's especially impossible to ignore Betts given Portis' injury history. Despite his phenominal talent, any coach with a smidgeon of common sense reduces the load on his injured stallion if he has a RB who has clearly shown that he can be a dominant RB on the bench as well. Â I could easily see that break 60/40 in Portis' favor when both guys are healthy. That takes his value down a bunch even though the top 2 RBs in WAS average 415 carries between them over the past 3 years. Â That would give Portis abnout 250 carries, which would translate to something around 1040 yds rushing for the season with how he rushes in WAS, and put Betts at 166 carries and 710 yds rushing, with Portis getting the lion's share of rushing TDs and Betts getting the lion's share of RB receiving yds. Â Â You're looking at a #2 RB at best in Portis, IMO, and a decent #3 RB in Betts.

You're certainly entitled to think whatever you want, however I would hazard a guess that a RB's knee, is under far more stress than a bassist's plucking hand. Â While Dr Andrews is a well respected physician and I do value his opinion, it is difficult for me to ignore the real life example of a recent NFL RB who indeed had his career derailed by tendinitis of the knee, even though he underwent state of the art treatment & rehab for it. Avernus
here's my take... Â alright, Betts is the one with the long injury history, not Portis.... Â I think Portis will end up a steal and bounce back to his regular numbers and be a complete steal in the 2nd round...
piratesownninjas
I would hazard a guess that a RB's knee, is under far more stress than a bassist's plucking hand. Come sit in one day and your mind may change. Strenuous playing for 4-5 hours without end for 10+ years does damage sir. Reguardless, if it can be fixed in someones hand who does immense work with someones hand, why couldn't be fixed in a runners knee? Â Andrews still knows eons more than both of us combined on this subject, but somehow I'm still thinking what he says is right. You have nothing here other than what you "think". I consider Portis to be a late second or early third round pick right now in a 12 team league with standard scoring, knowing that there's both considerable risk and considerable upside if you choose to draft him. bushwacked
Like Portis a ton when healthy, drafted him in our 16 team Good vs. Evil League with the 26th pick, along with often injured Westbrook, Randy Moss, and Kellen "I'm an F'n Warrior" Winslow. It's a fairly low pay league, but I wouldn't be as apt to do this in a big money league or even a local 12 team league. If my GoodvEvil team sucks, it shouldn't be for a lack of talent. Â How did injuries from bass players get compared to RB's? I don't care if you are Cliff Burton, Jaco Pastorius, or Flea....Comparing running the football against behemoths on messed up knees to slapping the bass with a sore pinky finger is one of the more lame anecdotes I've ever seen in this forum. Oh dear god... Playing the bass is a hand intensive exercise. If you have the issue with you hands its going to be damned difficult, if not close to impossible to properly play. And yes, just because I'm not getting hit by a 300 pound guy doesn't make the injury any different. Its still the same condition. Also, its not slapping, its fingerstyle, and you don't use your pinky. You have no idea about what you're talking about, and dropping the names of the most popular bassists through history doesn't give you any cred musicially. My entire point here was that this injury can be recovered completly from, but I'll leave it to some of the huddlers here to harp on tiny things and get off track. I love you guys. I really do. Big Score 1
Portis' injury and degenerative ligaments are two different injuries. I may well be wrong here, but it's my understanding that both Portis & Levens have the same problem... tendinitis of the knee. Â In Leven's case, it ended up derailing his career. Remains to be seen how Portis is able to deal with his tendinitis of the knee. Â I'm just advising caution is all.

I could see his average # of carries going down a bit. They have good depth at RB in Washington and they have no issues plugging guys in.
