Big Country
the MGM Grand Sweet, finally a centrally located Strip location. And those that stay at the place sky used on Duke Ellinton way should be ecstatic as now it is just a 5 minute walk to the hotel. I for one am pleased with this choice. They do have a pretty good poker room that caters to the lower stakes. And also the round bar/lounge where the famous photo of Jumpin Johnnies and the blow up sheep was taken. twiley
I probably won't use my Hilton points this year if I go so I won't have to trek all the way across the strip to get to the MGM Grand.
Menudo
What is the rule regarding staying at the casino / hotel that is holding the event ? I have tons of Mariott points and my buddy can get us comp rooms at Harrah's, so, I was wondering if that was possible ????

That hotel was renovated a few years ago and is no longer quite the "deal". MGM Grand, huh. I may have something up my sleeve.

Otherwise rule is basically 1 night at the place, which is currently at $129/night.

Desert Rose...looks more like an apartment complex that was changed in to a hotel/condo area. It was pretty reasonable last year. Of course, that could have been because of the extra roomy... rocknrobn26
The MGM is Hugh! I've been there for several conventions. It's about a 7-10 minute walk from the elevators to their convention center. Almost like walking from the strip to Paradise Blvd. Keep that in mind. Not disin' MGM, just stating facts. Their mini suites are sahweet. Good restaurants, as Bier has already said, and the location is good. I still would like to see it at the Flamingo. Decent food (Yeah, Jax I remember that lunch), close convention centers, and still one of the best casinos in town. JMHO.

Kid Cid
Sweet. If they get a deal like last year, hopefully the room rates will drop. The Hilton went from $125 down to $95 a night last year.

No one should be paying more than $49-69 per night in Vegas right now for 3-4 star accommodations...they are bleeding and offering all kinds of deals. You don't have a choice with WCOFF, if you are new you pretty much have to get 1 night through them at the host hotel.

Why cash in 20,000 points to save $69? Save them, and cash them in in 2-3 years, when the rates will likely be back up to $149-169. Not just Vegas, but anywhere. For now, take advantage of the best deals you'll likely see for the next 5 years. And like I said, rates at top Vegas hotels, for those that know how to shop them, are well under $100, and many as low as $49-69. My partner stayed at the Bellagio for $89 back in early February...amazing price compared to 2007 ($200+).
