myhousekey
Thanks for the heads up. Called and got the $10 HD credit. Already getting free HD for a year so they noted my account that I'll get 2 more years free after it expires next april (of course I have to call back). No luck on the ST though. They wouldn't give me the $20 discount so I told them no thanks. I'll probably try again in a couple of weeks. It always seems its just a matter of getting the "right person" on the other end
Turf Smurf
The way I see it, it's $12-15/week for 17 weeks. I really, really like to watch my team play, and they get very few national games. Each time I travel to watch them live, I easily can spend $500-600, so $15/week seems cheap. People pay $100/month easy for cable/sat with all the movie channels. Name one movie channel that comes close to the entertainment of all the games every week? It's not even close. I'll pay whatever they charge, it's worth it to me. God love me some TIVO too! .....9mm porn from the 70's.....
nogohawk
Okay gang it is time for the annual NFL Sunday Ticket thread...plus a little something else I recently learned....hopefully this has not already been posted - if so...feel free to ignore this. Do you have an HD TV? You probably do right? If so, I wanted to let you know (in case you did not know already) that because of a deal that DISH Network has with new customers being offered FREE HD for life…Direct TV has now matched that promotion for their new customers…but what about us suckers who are already Direct TV customers? That’s right…we can get in on the deal too (sort of). A very simple call (less than 2 minutes probably) is all it’ll take for you to save the $10/mo HD charge for 24 months (not a “lifetime” deal but 24 months ain’t shabby). Just call Direct TV and say “HD Credit” at the voice prompt and you’ll get a customer service rep who can help you. The only thing you’ll need to do is be signed up for auto bill pay (like through a credit card or your bank account) and then they’ll give you the $10 off over the next 24 months. No contract extension of any kind required. In regards to the NFL Sunday Ticket...yesterday, I called in regards to the HD credit ($240 savings) and then got transferred to another customer service rep when I asked about my early bird renewal info for the Sunday Ticket. When I got to this rep I explained to him that I was not sure that I wanted to continue my NFL Sunday Ticket. The new “early bird” renewal is 6 payments of $49.99 = $299.94 and 5 payments of $9.99 = $49.95 for what they are calling NFL Sunday Ticket To Go – which is service for smart phones and laptop access to be able to watch all of the games through those kind of devices. I don’t need the “To Go” service so I told the rep I for sure did not want that to hit my bill in the next few months…and then I reiterated with the rep that I didn’t think I could justify renewing my Sunday Ticket package even at the “early bird” pricing but that I would continue with it if he would match my deal from last year…which I had negotiated a reduction over 6 months with a $20 credit per month. He said “no problem” and now I will have Sunday Ticket for basically 6 payments of $29.99 for a savings of $120.00 There is also no longer an extra charge for the HD portion of the NFL Sunday Ticket which used to cost an $100.00 (they must have heard enough of us complain about being double charged for HD service Happy bargaining gang....go get 'em! KO'd Called on Friday and got the $10 credit for HD for 12 mos. $20 off the ST mo. chg ($120 savings) & they mentioned N/C for HD (was $100 last year) plus threw in the STTG another $50 savings - dot too bad for about 10 mins. on the phone. I definitely think it depends on who you get as to how much you get offered. I just kept on saying, I did not use it every weekend last year and probably won't this year (depending on how many Sundays I'll be working). Thanks for the info KO'd

DCMartin
Called today, got credit as well as $20 a month off on NFL ST. Asked to cancel ST, was transferred. He offered $10 off a month, said no (only because I had seen this thread a couple days ago so wanted to hold out for $20) and then he offered the 20 off a month. I said yes (in a fake surprise voice). Nice work guys and thanks for the heads up.

Looking forward to smartphone capabilities this year though. Yeah, looks like it's available to the masses... I still wonder just what sort of quality the picture is or if it's possible to have multiple games on screen at once. Anyone ever use ST online? byron2112
Called yesterday and got the $20 off deal... at first the gal offered $10, but I hung in and she offered $20. Was actually really cool about it... I didn't feel like I was haggling or anything, just chatting.

Go Skins
For the second year in a row, I got $20 off per month for six months, along with free SuperFan (which I think is easier this year to get, but still...) Thanks to everyone for this ongoing thread. Also, I got the free HD credit ($10 off a month for two years) that somebody mentioned to get. DirectTV was throwing out in response to Dish Network's offer of free HD?? Anyhow, I did the HD credit on a different day, about a week later... none of this was a problem. DirectTV is great, and they'll always hook you up if you're polite but steadfast in your stance to say something's too much for you budget. (They also gave me free Cinemax for 3 months to go with my HBO, just out of the blue...)

Square
Any of you crazy cats use an external HD to improve your HDDVRs storage? I'm still debating on making the switch but I think I'd like to get a 1TB external HD if I go this route. I figure it'd just be easier to set it up from the beginning with one of those (as it replaces the internal HD). Ideas or suggestions? Heroes2010
OK... for all of us that are NOT tech saavy... how do you implement the use of an external HD from the DVR??? I'd love that... there are several older TV shows that I would like to keep but don't want to clog up the DVR harddrive.
Atlanta Cracker
External Hard Drive Tips and Tricks I have the 1TB Western Digital drive they mentioned hooked up and it works like a champ. One thing to take note of is when you hook it up you no longer have access to what is on the internal HD. It's like starting over with a brand new box. Small price to pay for a ton of capacity IMO. Agreed. That is why I'm figuring that if I do go DirecTV, that I just get the external HD from day 1 so I don't have to worry about losing pre-recorded stuff. krose1975
Just called today and instead of BS'ing the customer service lady, I just very politely told her about the offer that my "friends" got ($20 off for 6 months and the Sunday Ticket To go ($50 value)) for free. She said that she was authorized to give me the same deal, and made it happen. It honestly took 3 minutes on the phone, and there was no haggling. jhusted
Has anyone recieved the sunday tix offer that didn't have it last year? Just curious if it was a "renewal only" offer. Heroes2010
I called and got the $20 off per month for the Sunday Ticket and the $10 off the HD but only for 12 months. It was no problem. I just said that my neighbor had gotten the HD deal and that I was given the Ticket deal last year... her response was "no problem, I can take care of that for you." After waiting a few minutes for her to work my account she told me that I would see the changes as of my next bill... so I thanked her!!! She then told me about some HBO and Starz deals that they were offering and that I could take advantage by signing on to my account online. DONE!! I love how this dialog has continued this year... sometimes you never know what you can get... and others may have tried already or know someone that has insider info. THANKS GUYS!!!! KOKIDKOKID
Okay gang another word to the wise. I am glad so many of you are being able to take advantage of the deals I got through DTV!! DTV has done me right on many occassions including this years hook ups that I was only too happy to let you know about...BUT they have kind of done me wrong (and my grandparents) recently and I wanted to make sure you don't get the shaft either. My grandparents had Dish Network for several years but were not pleased with it. Whenever they'd come to visit us they'd watch our DTV and they seemed to like it a lot. Well, finally their Dish contract ended and they decided to switch to DTV. They had seen the commercials about getting the $100 refer a friend credits for yourselves and those who referred you by giving your friends DTV acct # to DTV when you sign up. Well long story a litttle shorter...my grandparents gave the person they signed with for DTV our name, address and acct # but neither of us got the credit. Why? Because apparently you can ONLY get that credit if you (the person signing up) calls 866-443-8869. That is the ONLY way to get the credit. I did not know that and neither did my grandparents. All I can recall from the DTV refer a friend commercials are the $100 per referal and the folks all looking like Ben Franklin. To make matters worse my grandparents apparently signed up for their DTV subscription contract via some sort of marketing company (a 3rd party DTV contractor) named Satton Marketing. I called DTV on my grandparents behalf (and my behalf as well of course) and my call fell on deaf ears. I spoke to a minion, then a customer retention person and finally to a customer retention supervisor and all 3 said we are basically SOL. I asked if they could give me or grandparents a $10/mo credit for 10 months under some other title other than the refer a friend credit and they said no...especially not for me since I already had credits on my account (from the HD and Sunday Tix offer) even though they acknowledged that those credits were not related to this offer. I then asked if they could at least give my grandparents the credit. No dice. I explained to them that the only reason my grandparents signed up to go to DTV was to get us and themselves the credit and did they (DTV) think my grandparents would stay with them beyond their contract termination date....not likely. Were they willing to lose them as customers for $100? Apparently so...all they said was grandparents should call the marketing company (Satton Marketing) and ask them if they will give them the credit - I cannot imagine why Satton would do that though...they got their commission for signing them up to DTV and that's all they make on the deal as the monthly bills come from DTV and that is who gets paid each month...no way Satton will give them the $100 referal credit let alone me too. Just be careful if you refer a friend or loved one because if you don't do it perfectly, all you have done is given DTV more $$ and yourself none. Dcat
Yesterday, I did my annual haggling w/DirecTV for NFL Sunday Ticket. DTV's list price for Sunday Ticket ("ST") is $300 (6 months x $49.99). This year there is no "Superfan" HD add-on price of $100. That's all now included (as it should have been all along --- I always used to negotiate that "Superfan" would be bundled in at no charge). However if you want to add the ST "To Go" (which puts ST on your SmartPhone - perfect for season ticket holders like me for watching early games while tailgating or watching late games after a home 1pm game... especially for fantasy football nerds) it's another $50. Here is what I got: ST for $29.99 per month ($20 credit per month for 6 months - saves $120) ST To-Go bundled in at no charge (saves $50) HD service free for 12 months (saves $10/month or $120) I read where someone got free HD for 24 months instead of 12. No worries... I'll ask for 12 months free HD one year from now when I haggle with them again. When you dial in, don't bother dealing with the front line reps... just say "cancel service" at the voice prompt and you go immediately to the Retention Team who are empowered to do this for you. The front line people at their call center are not. The first person I got was a woman who defintiely had attitude and seemed like she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Cranky. Maybe her husband didn't finish her off or something, but I thought best not to work with her. After a minute with her, I disconnected and called back about half-hour later. Then I got a delightful rep who was easy to work with. In addition to working out my deal, we talked about football, his Raiders (he was a 40 year Raiders fan who now lives in Idaho), JaMarcus Russel, Al Davis. Very pleasant experience. Good luck. Just be pleasant, respectful and polite (which I realize is very difficult for some people here). It surely helped that I have been a DTV customer for 15 years. Also... if you don't have DTV yet... they have an outstanding offer for new customers... which includes ST and free HD for life at a great price... far better than anything we current customers can get. If you are thinking of switching from diaper dirtty cable to DTV... grab the "premier" offer for $66.99/ month ($59.99 + $7 DVR service w/free installation, etc): DirecTV new customer promo

My question is, if I signed up for that and I get the first 5 months free can I then change to a lower tier option and still keep Sunday ticket? I'd typically normally carry the choice extra package and sunday ticket without all the movie channels. I just don't know if signing up for that would lock me into the highest package for a year or two. I guess I just need to call them when I get a chance to see what they say (although I feel like a sales rep would BS me so I don't know). Sorry to threadjack this with my own plight, but I went ahead and placed my order for DTV today. They said I could switch out to a different package after my first 5 months runs out and keep sunday ticket and HD free for life. I did not have to sign up for auto-pay, but I do have to keep an ultimate or higher package for that. Not perfect but at least I can start out without having them auto-bill me and then I'll determine later if I want to give them access to a CC to get a better deal later. I already ordered a HD and an eSata enclosure to expand the memory of one of my DVRs to 1TB. Pretty stoked. Any tips or advice on how the installation goes? I've heard people say they've gotten some knuckleheads on install day and they are going to be showing up next Monday so any advice is appreciated.
