whomper
The Family and I are on vacation at an amusement park called Knoebels in PA. We heard about this place through friends who go here every year for a family reunion. The park is hugh. We got here yesterday , checked in and got to the park by 3 and stayed until 10. We are staying at a hotel near by but many people camp at the sites right outside the park. Here is the thing with this place. The park is just as nice as any amusement park we have been to. A hugh selection of rides, tons of food , ice cream, water rides, the works. The beauty is , and what many people told us about before we got here, is the prices are like from 1970. The most expensive ride in the entire park cost 1.75 to get on. Most rides are like .75 each. You can buy an entire day pass for rides for 23 dollars. The most important thing is that it is fun. What good would a inexpensive park be if it was beat but it is just refreshing to see a place that doesnt maul you to enjoy some fun filled days with the family. We are staying for 4 days/ 3 nights. Then we are going to the Jersey shore for 3 days. I day at the shore will equal everything we spent in 4 days here. But we want some beach time. Anyone that is remotely close to this place looking for a nice fun family vacation I highly recommend it. The wife loves it, the kids love it and Daddy isnt going through the vacation blood letting Knoebels Edited August 12, 2009 by whomper
TimC
Sounds awesome. That place needs to realize that business today is to suck the customer dry and make the dolla bill moneys as fast as possible and get out before you're convicted. See banks and investment firms. Kid Cid
I remember when I was living in PA that Knoebels was highly recommended. Have fun!
Big John
There is a city-run amusement park in Green Bay called Bay Beach, which has rather cheap prices. Still under a dollar, but as a kid, rides were a dime each.

I've gone several times a summer since I was like 5 years old. Like you said, it is a fun place and you can't beat the price. Hersheypark is the better local amusement park, but, it will cost you about 5X's what a day at Knoebels costs, so, I don't get there often, and it is 15 minutes down the road. One of the few places I can take my clan of 6 and not feel like I need a 2nd mortgage to pay for the trip. I can all 6 of us in and on maximum rides for about $130...I think it costs that much to get 3 people into Hershey/Six Flags/etc. And the food is the same deal...good, cheap, and enjoyable. Good call...and the camping is great there...you should try it....great sites/swimming/etc.

whomper
We are in stage 2 of the family vacation. Down the Jersey shore. Friday was awesome here. We go to the hotel pool and my oldest daughter strikes up a conversation with this girl in the pool. Turns out this girl is turning 8 today. My wife and I start chatting with her parents and ended up having the pleasure of meeting 2 very special people. They came down here because they gave their daughter a choice for her birthday. A party with friends or a trip. The girl chose a trip. The dad is from Brazil and the mom is from Uraguay. They live in NY. The wife is a housekeepr and they live in the guest house of the woman whose house she cleans. They also have a 3 year old. The 3 year old is a special needs child. She has a rare condition that effects 1 in 3 million children. We talked to them for 3 hours at the pool. The dad had a cooler of beers and sodas at the pool and instantly offered them up to me and my family. What great , real people these people are. We had a great time at the pool then they went to the boardwalk and we went out to eat. We decided to meet up again later. After we ate I called the dad and we were going to meet back at the pool later at night. I returned their earlier generosity with a trip to the liquor store. I bought beers and made them margaritas the rest of the night. My daughters had a blast with their kid and my wife and I had an awesome time with the parents. My wife was literally driven to tears by their stories about the road they have taken with their youngest daughter and her struggles. Meanwhile the kid is the happiest little kid you can ever imagine. Smiling the whole time she was awake and loving my 2 daughters. These are people of simple means. They put the money together to take a trip to celebrate their kids birthday and were generous and friendly with us. Tonight they invited us to have a birthday cake for their daughter. My wife is out getting her a present right now. What a great family . Every so often you make "vacation friends" and we sure did yesterday. Lunch is on the way then we are htting the beach. It has been a great vacation. Edited August 15, 2009 by whomper

I think they just bought the golf course that's along the road on the way in too. If you come in from Elysburg that is.

I grew up about 25 minutes from Knoebels so a lot of reunions and parties were held there. The beauty of the place is that there is no charge to get in. So even the folks that have no interest in riding the coasters can just go chill out with everyone else at no cost. How was the new "open track" roller coaster? The Mrs. and I were going to head over there yesterday, but my sister had a baby so we went down to Paoli to see her instead.

Skippy
The Skippy clan has not been out there in two or three years now but prior to that it was an every year event. We would use Knoebels as the meeting ground to hook up with some of my wifes family that lives out in Hazelton. Great place for sure and I am pretty sure that I posted about Knoebels somewhere on these boards a bunch of years ago.
