New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas did not participate in Wednesday's practice, indicating he remains questionable at best for Sunday's season opener against the Detroit Lions at the Superdome.

Thomas, who continues to rehab his sprained right knee, was seen riding the stationary bike during the media's 30-minute access to practice.

He also is nursing a laceration on an unspecified part of his body.

Thomas' status will be updated after practice when Coach Sean Payton addresses the media.

Bell and Bush should be solid plays this week against the Lions.

My guess is he cut his a** which is why it's an unspecified part of his body. Same thing with Winslow last year being hospitalized with unspecified symptoms or whatever term they used (that one still makes me cringe).

What in the <insert favorite expletive here> was he doing hurdling a fence when he already has a bum knee. I shouldn't have drafted him since he appears to have an IQ only a point or two higher than the ink pen sitting on my desk.

 Hey Pierre wise up.

Thanks for the update Paul

If you think about it, maybe his knee isn't as bum as they are reporting and then only reason for having him sit is for the stitches. I mean they are playing Det so there is absolutely no reason to start him if he's not needed.

Don't give up hope on him. I suspect some good numbers out of Thomas this year, even with all the cynics out there.

I love how everyone is saying "Mike Bell is a must start this week". Dude, it's week 1. If you can find a way to get Mike Bell in your lineup this week your draft went HORRIBLY wrong. Either that or you're in a league that starts 3 RB's and a Flex.

That being said, I'm thinking about starting him over Willie Parker (vs. TENN) and Cedric Benson (despite a JUICY matchup against DEN).

Naaaaah. . .going with Benson.

Not really. I've drafted a bench of Knowshon, DBrown, CWells (traded away) & JDavis to go behind ADP and PT as my starters. All solid upside guys that are in situations that are not clear for Week 1 but should firm up in a week or two.

+1,000,000,000

The first time Bell gets stuffed, Brees will take the the ball to the air. I think Bell would be my last option...Unless of course you have Shaun Alexander in your line up

And once they're up by 30 points, will they continue to take the ball to the air? They won't overwork Bush, making Bell a viable option behind a very good O-line. Garbage time yds and TDs count the same as ones that come early in the game.

Bell will get some carries on short yardage and any goal line carries......but I ask, how many short yardage situations or goal line situations do you think NO will be in against Det? My guess is that they will be scoring 25 + yards out.

I honestly think Bell will have more production with PT than without, especially against a horrid defense the likes of Det.

Everyone knows Bell is a power rusher and Bush is a shoe string tackle. They will stack the line and have Brees beat them in the air.

I'm not sure I agree that they will stack the line for a third string RB like Bell while leaving the top QB in the league to beat them by air.

I'm not getting my hopes up, and I wish I had a better option. But, 50 yds and a probable TD would make me plenty happy. I think that is reasonable to look for.

Your probably right on your estimate. And of course, we are all just speculating so who knows, he might have a 200 yard game out of no where and 2 TD's.

Honestly, I hope that doesn't happen because I am a PT owner but I've am also a Bronco fan and and have lived and died with Bell.

For week one only, if M.Bell start i think he will put up the same numbers as a 1st round RB.

I see no problem staring him this week as a second back and definatly as a Flex if you can..

I know everone says "start your studs" but if your stud has a bad match up....(I'm looking at you Chris Johnson) then let him ride the pine and plug in Bell for a week and then trade him to the P.Thomas owner in week two for a steal...

my two cents

leaving yourself with 4 rookie backs and a somewhat unproven one like Pierre is not a gamble most would want to take. I am not sure why you are so confidant that they will sort their situations out in your favor? I dont see Brown starting anytime soon, Davis has 2 backs to go thru , Wells has been hurt all camp, possibly you will have Moreno by week 2 , possibly. So if this was your plan for the draft , then it was a bad one. If not then your draft went horribly wrong . Which I believe we have heard from someone here already

Goodness... My draft did not go horribly wrong and I did not enter it with a specific plan other than to stay flexible and look for value. But thanks for your concern.

Don't really want to go through my draft choices and rationale here. At the draft, I felt the odds of one of Moreno or Wells panning out for my 1st RB off the bench were pretty good. But, I traded away Wells (in a package with Palmer for Jennings & Titans D, upgrade over Raiders). In short, an 8th & 9th rounder for a 2nd - a deal I couldn't refuse. PT and ADP would usually have locked down my starting RB spots, so prior to PT's injury I was set.

Even still, I have confidence I can manage my RB2 spot OK from week to week until PT returns considering my strength elsewhere. If things don't pan out I will trade a W/T for a better option at RB.

Unless they decide to work the hell out of Bush, then Bell should see plenty of action. Remember, Bush was still nursing a bad knee not to long ago so they will have to use Bell quite a bit in this matchup. Why in the world would Detroit stack the line to make Brees beat them through the air. That's what NO does is kill everyone through the air. If anything Det. starts a base 5 DB lineup which will absolutely favor the run. If I've got Bell on my team I start him this week without a second thought. I would expect him to have a very solid week, 100 total yds and at least 1 TD.

PT and Bell play basically the exact same way. Bush is more of a speed, passing option than anything else. Your comments make absolutely no sense at all.

Dude if you really think this then you are wacko. MMM do you limp around because you got stitches on your azz. Pierre is hurt a lot worse than Payton is letting on. how many people do you know that has a "mild" knee sprain that still can't practice and walks with a limp after three weeks. That stitches shiat is just to make it seem not as bad and apparently it worked with you.

The sprain is a pretty painful thing. This type of injury has more to do with pain tolerance, than actual injury after being given a couple of weeks to rest. Stretching a ligament hurts like hell, but it is still intact- and again only after some rest- ready for action.

I will test my tolerance trying to pick between Lendale and Donald Brown this week.

From Pierre's twitter account:

TO ALL MY FANS: I was not chasing my dog or dogs when I cut my knee. My dog was stuck in my neighbors yard and I heard him yelping...went to help, his leash was all tangled and when I squeezed through the gate I cut my knee on a piece of the fence. It is nothing serious..

I am preparing for the Lions on Sunday and waiting for the thumbs up from the Saints. Who Dat ready to ROCK THE DOME!!
