The king of dollar DVDs had been testing movie rentals in the HD format. Redbox said Thursday it will offer Blu-ray in 13,300 kiosks nationwide beginning immediately, and throughout its entire 23,000-location rental system by the fall. matt770
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100730/film_nm/us_redbox_1 Great deal, but their selection sucks and they don't offer the convenience of discs mailed to you or streaming movies. You can have my Netflix when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Pope Flick
Why would I want to drive to the early 2000's version of Photomat when I can cue up and stream films from my Xbox?
twiley
Why would I want to drive to the early 2000's version of Photomat when I can cue up and stream films from my Xbox? This or the Wii or from a compatible TV or from a ROKU. Netflix is a beast.
Double Agent
Why would I want to drive to the early 2000's version of Photomat when I can cue up and stream films from my Xbox? Exactly. Netflix is king. Redbox will be gone in a few years.
Jackass
Exactly. Netflix is king. Redbox will be gone in a few years. No it won't. Two completely different business models.

Double Agent
No it won't. Two completely different business models. So was Blockbuster.
Pope Flick
No it won't. Two completely different business models. An antiquated one that cannot compete with Netflix. So you do the blu ray rental, and snooze on the return for two nights. You've just dropped nearly 5 bucks on one film, while the streaming + one movie at a time option at netflix is only 10/month. And as the streaming approaches true blu ray quality it'll only get worse for redbox.
SayItAintSoJoe
No it won't. Two completely different business models. +1 I think there's room for both.
CarryTheRock
Redbox is cool if it happens to be where you are and not six people behind you while you are browsing...or six people in front of you browsing. That is one of the most uncomfortable looking lines... I would prefer even the old Netflix over Redbox...now I started getting the stream on the Wii and I'm loving it. TimC
Netflix is awesome. It almost has me considering dumping DirecTV...if I weren't out in the sticks and an antennae won't pick up jack. Talk about a company that is dying...see DirecTV.

The Irish Doggy
Some people continue to see going out to the local grocery Redbox to rent a DVD more convenient than streaming or mail delivery. I have no idea why. Edited August 4, 2010 by The Irish Doggy
TimC
Some people continue to see going out to the local grocery Redbox to rent a DVD more convenient than streaming or mail delivery. I have no idea why. Because they are poor and don't have checking accounts? Obama voters
Azazello1313
No it won't. Two completely different business models. true. but if I were going to bet on one long term, it wouldn't be redbox.

No, it's an evolving industry and netfilx is 10x more convenient in the end.
Scooby's Hubby
RedBox if you have no credit ... Netflix if you have enough credit to get a credit card. Not to sound like a snob, but, RedBox is for those who prefer to scrape up enough for a movie kinda on a last minute thing and Netflix is for those who are patient and can afford to have it mailed to them. Also, Netflix can mail you many more movies at once for cheaper. Edited August 4, 2010 by Scooby's Hubby
Scooby's Hubby
...and when you have kids they like to watch movies over and over for a week until they are burned out. Netflix allows you to keep the movie forever if you choose.
Scooby's Hubby
Dibs on naming my next dog "Netflix" kinda sounds more like a cat name, like the cat from outer space would be named Netflix.
NastyAssMayonnaise
I pay for Netflix and couldn't care less if they ever send me a movie. I stream content from them almost daily.
