Big F'n Dave
Work is gonna have me on the road about 1,500 miles a week for the next several months and I'm tired of paying speeding tickets. Need something, but I'm not confident enough in them to drop five or six bills on one. Anybody familiar with this rig?
redrumjuice
The best money can buy is the Passport II, I just sold mine a couple months ago.

redrumjuice
I got over confident with mine, the only tickets I got were when I was using it. Like when driving the OK panhandle, loooong flat curvy farm roads, no traffic, meet a cop coming around a blind corner BAM.
Big F'n Dave
Yeah, I'm gonna be south of San Antonio working the Eagle Ford Shale for the next several months. I was over there for the first time last week and saw LOTS of cops. A ton of work going on over there right now and I'm sure those small towns are filling their coffers from the workers speeding though there. buddahj
The best practice is to just drive the speed limit or a few mph over. It doesn't really matter how nice your radar detector is if they clock you with laser. You'll never be able to slow down in time. Radar detectors are for suckers. Like redrum said, you will get overconfident. Frankly that is a too stressful way to drive anyway. I have nothing against going fast on occasion. However, you have some sort of issues if you are a habitual speeder. You are either always late or super aggressive on the road. Neither is good for you aor the rest of us. Footballjoe
Turning 55 in two weeks, been driving since 1974, have only had 1 speeding ticket (about 1976). Try to never go more than 10 miles over the limit.

Try to never go more than 10 miles over the limit. My three tickets in the last six months bring my 28-year total to about five. I've only had one big one - 88 in a 55 when I was 15. Of the last three, two were for 10 mph over and one for nine. What in the wild world of sports will you be doing down there? Selling, brother. Selling. Perhaps you're not being honest with yourself. 7-10 MPH over the speed limit is still speeding. You're just defining your own speed limit that's higher than the legal limit, but lower than some other drivers'. I'll admit it. I usually drive fast on back roads and highways. I don't weave in and out of traffic, and I drive the speed limit in residential areas. So, like you, I've defined my own rules for safety that don't always meet the law, because they allow me to occasionally enjoy driving. 2 speeding tickets in my life. I'm a little older than Footballjoe. Edited February 6, 2011 by ljbrun

Hugh 0ne
I own this one: http://www.escortradar.com/redline-details.php Love it. Had it for about a year, instead of driving the 7-10 over, I now drive 17-20 over. That way if I get caught, I'll get a fine and points, but won't jeopardize losing my license. That being said, the Redline is awesome, haven't been pulled over since I got it, and it's saved me easily 10 times. :knocksonwood:

I Like Soup
I have a Valentine One hardwired to my dome light so there aren't any wires hanging around and it is right above my and to the right of my rear view mirror. I love my Valentine One, but if I had to do it again, I'd try out the Passport 9500 thingamajig since you can program it's GPS for recurring sources of radiation (i.e. an intersection with multiple automatic doors). Double Agent
If you put a giant mirror on your car it will deflect the laser into space and they cannot clock your speed. May kill an astronaut though.

I Like Soup
How big does the mirror have to be? I'm guessing big enough that the pig getting your speed reading may be blinded by the light...
