Papajohn
I understand that Elias overrules all plays. My question is, are there some questionable decisions by Elias in Brees record-breaking stats? Â Â You mean like one or more backward passes, that by mistake was ruled as forward passes, and went for 242 yards?

MustOfBeenDrunk
Who is this Brees character? Â You know he is that guy that was sent packing by San Diego , couldn't pass a physical in Miami then landed on some team in NO , not a bad guy but No Peyton , more like a Kurt Warner type Edited January 3, 2014 by MustOfBeenDrunk
Zooty
seems like every sunday some pass rusher blows by Brees and the wind cause Drew's shirt to ruffle a little causing a roughing flag to be thrown. thus..your post is ironic and funny   well he is just a wittle guy and needs to be protected from the the big mean defensive players
CaptainHook
I highly doubt anyone remembers every play from Brees' season  My point is, if you scrutinized Brees record breaking season, is it possible you might find a play or two that MIGHT be ruled a lateral? flemingd
My point is, if you scrutinized Brees record breaking season, is it possible you might find a play or two that MIGHT be ruled a lateral?   Probably not. Because they did scrutinize them, every week, every play. The ones that should have been overturned already have been. There was no NFL record on the line in week 4 of 2011, so it wouldn't have gotten any scrutiny at the time and been overruled. This would have easily been overturned as well if there wasn't an NFL record on the line. Had Manning completed a few extra passes in the 2nd half, they would have taken these 7 yards away and no one would have cared.  For the record, there were no stat corrections for Brees in 2011:  Statistics Changes For Week 1  1. delusions of grandeur
Since when has "could have, would have, should have" entered into the world of statistics? I do hope somebody breaks the record again next year, because this just stinks of more favoritism on the NFLs part. Â Â Right, like they wouldn't have done the same for Brees if the box scorers had declared a lateral a pass, and it caused him to sit thinking he'd gotten the record.... Maybe not fair to not hold the deciding stat to the same scrutiny that they would the earlier ones, but is it fair that Manning has a record taken away that he left the game thinking he had because they didn't get it right during the game? Â If the scorers had scored it right, he would have stayed in and gotten the few yards he needed legitimately, so I don't really see the outrage. It's not like we're talking about a call that changed the outcome of the game, we're talking about a record that is only there purely for bragging rights. A few inches between a forward/lateral/backwards pass shouldn't take away what he achieved. Â Plus it's not like passing yards are always the best indicators of QB strength anyway, when you have less efficient guys like Stafford passing for 5,000 yards because their lack of defense, running game and offensive efficiency leads to a record-setting number of attempts; On the other hand, last year you had Rodgers only passing for 4,600 because he was able to put up 45/6 TD/INT much more efficiently and in far less attempts. Who's the better QB in that scenario? Â Was it a breakout game for Alex Smith with his 5 TDs, or was that because he dumped it off to Charles and reaped the benefits from his 4 TDs? Â So was Peyton really any less worthy of the achievement because he went out of the game thinking that his pass was more forward than it actually was because the box scorers got it wrong? Again, if they'd gotten it right, then he would have stayed in and broken it anyway... It would be different if we were talknig about something that changes the outcome of a game, but he clearly earnedthe bragging rights, and it wouldn't be any more fair to take that away because of a mistake in scoring at the moment. Â Edit: box-scorers not refs. Edited January 3, 2014 by delusions of grandeur

delusions of grandeur
Honestly, who really gives a crap? Â Â People shouldn't outside of Manning and Brees to talk crap to one another. It's a token award, and of course the NFL is not going to take away an achievement that was previously awarded (especially in this year where the rest of the product is pretty crappy). rajncajn
Right, like they wouldn't have done the same for Brees if the box scorers had declared a lateral a pass, and it caused him to sit thinking he'd gotten the record.... Â Edit: box-scorers not refs. That's an awful lot of bullhonda just to say that you think Manning should keep the record. Â I don't think he should keep it simply because he didn't get it. I'm sorry the stat-scorers got it wrong during the game, but they did. That's on the Broncos for leaving it up to one yard. Apparently they didn't think much of it either, so I seriously doubt it would hurt their feelings either way. As I stated before, I seriously hope somebody breaks it again soon so that there is no doubt. Otherwise it just stinks of more NFL favoritism. Sorry but for the past 2 years that is the only time you post, when it relates to the Saints. And then we get the NFL favoritism (when you really mean NFL bias against the Saints). BA Baracus
Everyone just assumes that it was ruled a lateral by Elias and that the NFL decided to overlook it. It can definitely be argued that it was not a lateral, it's pretty damn close.

Unless it is clear and convincingly a lateral, the call on the field should stand.
