Gopher
I'd be fine with the TNF games going away. But, what really makes them bad is the requirement that every NFL team must play in one. That rule really limits who they can feature on a weekly basis. If it was just another nationally televised game (and they tried to pick the best matchup possible... similar to SNF/MNF games), it wouldn't be quite as painful. HowboutthemCowboys
I wouldn't be sad if they did away with TNF but I enjoy it. It's an extra niht with football. And I have no stats to back it up, but I don't think it's as horrible for ff pts as alot of people make it out to be. I have plenty of players that bomb on Sundays and Mondays too
darin3
Not sure if it'd even be possible since bye weeks don't start until a few weeks in, but they should only have teams coming off bye weeks play in these games. The guys are just not rested or ready to go after a few days. Other teams have WAY more time to heal, prepare, etc. It puts undue stress on coaches and especially the players. As for another night of football, I don't mind it. It just sucks for the players and the product is oftentimes lacking due to health of players and sometimes unpreparedness.

This is a good idea, however, no teams have bye weeks before week 3 and all bye weeks are completed by week 12 or 13 (can't remember which week exactly they stop). So that leaves for week 2, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 that Thursday Night Teams would have to play on 4 days rest. That would still be better than the setup now though. I didn't include week 1 because that is the first week and rest wouldn't really come into play there.

As for another night of football, I don't mind it. It just sucks for the players and the product is oftentimes lacking due to health of players and sometimes unpreparedness. It would require teams on bye almost every week, because the NFL want TNF games every week (but don't do one the last week so all games open to flex to SNF). Somebody mentioned not liking the requirement that every team play, because it limits the chance to have good matchups with better teams. But that is done to remove the inequality as the rule states "every team must play once on a Thursday night after playing on a Sunday." The first Thursday game (kickoff) doesn't count since they didn't play the prior Sudnay. Also 2 of the teams playing on Thanksgiving have faced each other the following week in a game, so that one doesn't count. That means they have the 3 games on Thanksgiving and 13 others on TNF throughout the year (played weeks 2-11,14-16) where teams played the prior Sunday. The thing about this expanded and changed contract that is interesting is the prospect they're adding even more games on a non Thursday (late season Saturdays) to get to their total of 18 game inventory (5 each on NBC/CBS [simulcast on NFLN] then 8 exclusive on NFLN). There were 15 last year (13 TNF and 2 Saturday), the Kickoff game still won't count in this package, but Thanksgiving night on NBC may count. Even with that they'd need at least 3 non Thursday games. And they cannot play on Saturday until the 2nd or maybe 3rd weekend of December (because of college FB). So people are saying even with both Christmas and New Year's Eve on Saturday this year, excpect an NFL game those days, maybe also on 12-17 (possibly 2 games).
