Didn't watch much NBA this year, but have to say Van Gundy is beyond annoying. Apparently this theory comes from Chris "Mad Dog" Russo, don't know who he is or how reputable his rumors are. The fact that he thinks "everybody likes that team" tells me he isn't being honest but speaking with his emotions and probably some friendship with Van Gundy.
