Vanderjagt Opens Mouth Again

Vanderjagt's commented on this week's matchup on a sports show in Indy Sunday night.

WEEI in Boston was going to play the audio around 9AM.

This is from an article in today's Boston Herald.

``I think they're not as good as the beginning of the year, not as good as last year. And I think they're beatable,'' Vanderjagt said of the Pats during a late-night television appearance in Indianapolis Sunday. ``We have to play well. There's no question about that. But I think we're going to come back (to Indianapolis) Sunday night going to the AFC title game.''

Added Vanderjagt: ``I think they're ripe for the picking.''

Another funny thing is that opening week, Law tweaked his hamstring and was out for most of the game. His only entry on the stat line was a single tackle.

I was at the game, so it is hard to track who is in and who is out.

I do remember the highlights showing Law pleading with Belichick on the sideline to go back in. There was some of the chatter that because of the "he lied to me, I am not playing here this year" talk by Law, Belichick was sending him a message by not putting him back in the game.

Point being that Law missed a significant portion of the September game, and were 8-1 without him, so while it is a big blow he is out, the Seymour situation warrants more attention.

Along those lines, what is the status of Mathis and Morris, Indy homers?

I also agree with him; he's not saying anything the entire world doesn't already know: this Pats team is more vulnerable now than ever w/ injuries, etc., and any team is "beatable" in this league.....but, c'mon, it's all relative. One team's "vulnerable" is many NFL teams' peak, and, even wounded, this Pats team can find a way to win. Won't be easy, and it wouldn't shock me at all if Peyton and Indy come in and go absolutely nuts on us, as they've done to the best teams all season long, to their great credit. But VJagt was just stupidly stating the obvious, and shouldn't give the Pats any more motivation @ home than they already have. Man, what a dope. I'm a kicker myself, and I keep my mouth s-h-u-t and just kick. Peyton, Dungy, et al have been saying all the right things so far – tough team, defending champs, hard to win in their house, I (Peyton) played terrible in last year's AFC Champ, etc etc., which is how any good pro should approach the media leading up to a game like this – but they apparently didn't teach VJagt to keep his "liquored up" comments to himself. :D

I agree with everything he said.

But he's the dumbest man on the planet for having said it.

Yep. I wish this guy would just shut up. He's a hell of a competitor, but needs to learn to think before he opens his mouth.

Vandy is also having a terrible year. He's already missed at least two very makeable FGs in critical situations and even shanked an extra point attempt against Detroit. I realize that he's been slowed by a groin injury, but still. He shouldn't be talking like that after the season that he's had. I'm glad that they have Gramatica in case Vandy starts missing FGs again.

Who cares? He's the kicker. It's not like Manning/Harrison/Wayne were saying crap like that. :D He's just a bit starved for attention. He's a great kicker dwarfed on a team with so many offensive superstars. He's been sort of distanced from the team or left out it seems every since he ran his trap year before last. He also wasn't pleased with them bringing in Gramatica or anyone else to handle kickoffs. He knows the Colts don't paticularly talk smack, so I just think he wanted a bit of attention, and was being a smartazz.

Although, I agree with what he said. :D

Never thought I'd hear that phrase.  :D

The only reason he made those comments is because he will not have to step on the field other than FG and PATS. He doesn't have to kick off and face Larry Izzo charging down the field at him. Watch for this to happen ->The Pats will make a run at Gramatica on the first kickoff and get him out of the game (after all, this is football). They will force the Colts to use Vanderjeck the rest of the way on kickoffs, and with the way the Colts score points, that could be a busy position to have. Once that happens, Vanderjerk will get his. For all of you who think that you would feel bad for him, just rememeber he is canadian to boot!

This is too much. :D

Talking about getting a kickoff specialist out of the game so Vandergagt has to kick off? Then, Izzo's main concern will be shifted from tackling the guy with the ball to laying a hit on the kicker?

I am getting back to work.

They asked Bruschi to comment on Vandergagt's comments and Bruschi said "You are asking me to comment on what a kicker said?", and then broke out in laughter.

What part of the above isn't true?

The Pats aren't as good as they were at the start of the season.... injuries will do that.

Indy DOES have to play well..... no question about that either.

They CAN be beat. They lost 2 games... so they aren't perfect.

So if you aren't a position player you can't open your pie hole? :D

I said that kiddingly!!!! It is funny how stupid words from an idiot kicker can be played with. The game will not come down to him since the Pats will win by 14.

He is basically guaranteeing a Colts victory. Kicker or no kicker, you think Dungy wants anybody on that team guaranteeing a victory?

Apparently he should have lied. I don't see anything inflamitory in the remarks whatsoever and if the Pats are running around worried about what Venderjagt has to say, well then the've already lost this game.

Again, you might have missed this, but here is how the Pats are worried about what Vanderjagt had to say.....

They asked Bruschi to comment on Vandergagt's comments and Bruschi said "You are asking me to comment on what a kicker said?", and then broke out in laughter.

The "players" do not look worried to me.

All I know is that a comment an average Tight End made prior to last years AFC Championship game didn't work out too well.

After two straight dominant performances in the playoffs last season, Indianapolis tight end Marcus Pollard remarked that if the Colts continued to play that way, then the NFL should ``just hand us the rings.''

The only ring Pollard received was one dispensed from a vending machine in a strip joint bathroom.

Law was in and out of that game. I'd say he played at least 50% of the time. And if you recall, if the Colts hadn't fumbled twice in the red zone, they would have won. But they didn't. Who gives a flying crap what Vanderjagt said. It is such a lame, benign statement anyway. Boston has blown it up to more than it was. I saw earlier reports that Vandy said the Pats cannot win without Law, and that he guaranteed a victory. None of that happened. When the real comments came out, Pats fans had already decided Vandy had promised a victory. He didn't say anything of the sort.

Morris will play. Mathis is undergoing more tests. I doubt he plays. He has really cooled off in the last half of the season. Plus, he is even less suited for grass than Freeney. I don't think losing him will make much of a difference this week. It's not like we'll be without Seymour, like the Pats will. :D

No, I didn't miss it. It's called confidence. He thinks that they will come back ... and go to the title game. He didn't guarantee anything. He believes in his team and he says that he does.

He prefaced that comment with his remark that they "HAVE TO PLAY WELL, no question about that".

He has every right to feel confident. Two stupid mistakes in the last game caused a loss. NE IS beatable and there is no reason to go into a game saying... we don't stand a chance, I don't know why they are making us play this game.

49 TD passes is the most EVER IN NFL HISTORY!!!!

121.1 QB Rating (New NFL Record)

13 Straight games with at least 2 TD passes (New NFL Record)

6 Consecutive 4000 yd seasons (NFL Record)

2-time NFL MVP

Don't bet against a Peyton Manning led team!

Funny all those stats are individual stats and not a ring to show for it....
