It's hard to say the Bears were fleeced when no one else wanted to give up anything for what is essentially a 1 year rental on a backup QB with the potential of having the inside track to re-sign Fields to a more favorable contract. Washington unloaded Howell and got a 3rd while giving up a 4th. The key difference being Howell is cap friendly for 2 years and not 1. And Howell has actually shown somewhat a propensity to read defenses, make reads, and throw some passes without relying on his ability*/inability to run.

Fields has 1 year left on his rookie contract. It's possible that he never plays a snap in Pittsburgh in 2024 and then signs with another team in 2025. It's pretty clear Fields is viewed as a backup and no one wants to take on the cap hit of extending his rookie contract. There was essentially no trade market and no one should be surprised he was unloaded for next to nothing.

Gus Edwards was always undervalued and outperforming ADP. Justice Hill is still there no? And Keaton Mitchell..will he be back? Trying to assume that Henry is going to surpass more than 13 rushing TDs in 2024 feels like a losing FF strategy. He hasn't done that since 2020 and he's no longer a 25 year old workhorse. I think he could get the over on 13, but it's surely with less yards. If Baltimore backfield runs for 1700 yards again, it's a somewhat optimistic leap of faith that Henry gets 60+ percent of that when they did it without him.

I think about half of these guys seems to be in a better situation, at least for the time being. Henry has a lot of votes so far. Not sure how him playing with a QB who should get 800 yards rushing helps his fantasy value?

Yea...teams are adjusting. I think commitment to a mediocre QB used to be more long term (perhaps Giants own the most recent one with Daniel Jones). Chicago wants to trade Fields but he has 1 year left on a salary favorable deal. There are a couple teams who likely see Fields as an upgrade. But how much draft capital do they want to trade for a guy before they possibly extend him for a payday?

The $100 Million sounds like way too much and honestly $50 million guaranteed sounds a bit hefty. But I'm guessing the $100 million payday never gets close to fruition. Teams make contracts like this to get out easy with minimal to moderate cap hits. But - being a mediocre QB in the NFL gets you a ton of cash on the short term (see Geno Smith, Derek Carr, and Daniel Jones - if he's even mediocre)

I'm still thinking. You've posed some very serious non-rhetorical questions that I've taken to heart. I might be thinking about them for awhile.

I meant the ones who got nominated. In 2020 I felt okay about Biden because he challenged a criminal who tried to undermine the election In 2016, Hillary was like a dentist visit. But it was someone who clearly had a resume on how the world worked. In 2012 Obama had a track record and Romney did to. I'd take either of these guys over 2024 choices. In 2008 it was Obama vs McCain and I felt okay about either one of those. The McCain and Romney types were moderates and have no place in modern Maga GOP. Obama, Hillary, and Biden are the same as they were years ago. Democrats who pass policy like Republicans did 20 to 30 years ago. Hell, their immigration policy is far to the left of Regan and Bush 1. Not my ideal candidates, but it's better than modern day old man competition today.

Contrary to popular belief, I always thought there was at least 1 decent quality candidate in recent elections.

People say this every election, but this time it's meaningful.

I made the point in the gunned thread that Biden's age is a valid concern. And it's unfortunate that the leading nominee for the GOP also has age issues (amongst numerous other issues). Recently Trump has: - Confused the leaders of Hungary and Turkey and got the neighboring country wrong - Stated that he beat Barack Obama in 2016 -Claimed we are on the verge of WW2 - Rambled on for a minutes where he confused Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi These should be as concerning as the things Biden says. So to start 2 threads with the focus on one guy who may be the next POTUS while completely ignoring the other guys age issues feels patently disingenuous. Especially now with the claim you're only worried about what's best for the country and insinuating you aren't coming at this with a political slant.
