Shorttynaz
I'm not one to blame any game on the officials, and am not blaming this game on the officials - but the Cards deserved to at least have that fumble reviewed. The replay showed Warner's arm moving forward. It's a dumb rule, but a rule is a rule.. Chances are the Stee's would have won anyway, but still.. That fumble should have been reviewed. It was questionable at best. That HAS to be one of the worst non reviews in SB history..

MTSuper7
Thank you for making an entire thread for this non-review. The end of that game was complete puke.
Skippy
I agree that they should have reviewed it but I don't see it the way everyone else seems to see it. I guess we will let sports center break it all down and then the refs will explain why it was the right call.
Shorttynaz
I hear you that it was PROBABLY irrelevant, but still.. Rules are rules.. Questionable plays within the last 2 minutes of a half are to be initiated by the officials.. Granted the Stee's probably would have stopped them anyway, but still.. The Cards didn't even have the chance to at least have the play reviewed. Warner's arm was moving forward with the ball in it.. By NFL rules, that's an incomplete pass.. Great win for the Stee's though. Not taking anything away from them. It's the officials that completely f'd it! The Irish Doggy
That arm was going forward before he got hit. The Steeler was coming down on the ball with two hands, so if he stripped the ball, it doesn't continue to go forward. Bad call on the field, but absolutely miserable non-review. No way the ball moves forward unless the QB's motion moved it forward. It's not like the Steeler's force cause forward movement there. Clearly an incomplete pass. Shorttynaz
I hate to blame a game on the officials.. All the calls prior to that were fine.. Not saying I agree with them, but seriously.. The Cards were f'd out of a CHANCE.. Hail Mary - something.. That was an incomplete pass and no one (Steelers fans) will ever convince me otherwise. That was the WORST ending to a superbowl i've ever witnessed.. I'm disappointed in the officials.. Not the Steelers, not the league.. The officials.. Oh well.. It is what it is.. Congrats Stee's fans..

We will see it a million times on Sports Center so we will see. Edited February 2, 2009 by Skippy

The Irish Doggy
The non-review is all the worse because this was a really great SB until that moment. I didn't have any real problems with the officiating until then. Edited February 2, 2009 by The Irish Doggy

I just tried to rewind my tv but it won't go back that far. Maybe someone else can replay and tell us exactly what was said?

Shorttynaz
several horrible calls prior. There were some bad calls but so be it.. I'm not calling out the officials for anything (unlike the last time the Stee's had the officials in their pocket against the Seahawks) but the Cards deserved an official review of the questionable fumble. It was an incomplete pass. Warner had the ball in his hands and was moving his arm forward when it was knocked out.. If it was then determined that it was a fumble then so be it. At least it was looked at.. Oh well.. Sucks that the game had to end the way it did..

I just tried to rewind my tv but it won't go back that far. Maybe someone else can replay and tell us exactly what was said? Yes, Al said they reviewed it. However, he also said the Cards coaches were pleading with the refs to go to the "hood". So, the on-field refs had not been called to the review booth by the ref upstairs. If it had been reviewed, NBC would have shown us the refs saying "After reviewing the play, the call on the field stands, etc. etc." I think Al made a mistake. I don't buy that they really gave this the look it deserved.
DMD
it is disappointing that the game ended that way when it was great in the fourth quarter. Sort of makes the non-calll on that guy holding Warner and yanking him to the ground during the 100 yard return even worse.

Hugh-mongus
Al Michaels said... ...and, indeed, they looked upstairs to confirm it was a fumble... but he was saying this as Pittsburgh was snapping the final play of the game. No way did they have time for a booth review. Also, typically, after a booth review, doesn't the ref come to the field with "after review, the ruling on the field stands". There was none of this. I still don't think it was reviewed.
CaptainHook
shoulda been a review. weird. why have replay if not for that exact situation in the biggest game of the year? Edited February 2, 2009 by CaptainHook
