soccer sucks. period.

a limited sport played by guys that wish they had the talent or athleticism to play football, basketball or baseball.

there is a reason why no one in the US cares about it.

Dislike soccer, but DO NOT agree with this.

There is a lot of talent and atheleticism in soccer. Rugby too. Now Cricket, That I will bag on.

A post to achieve the most vaunted heights of cluelessness. You have clearly never been on a soccer field at any kind of adult level.

And although it is true that it is not that popular in the US, it is everywhere else - using this argument is a double edged sword.

I have played soccer for many many years and have to agree that soccer sucks!!! it gets worse as the levels go up. the dives and the fake grabbing of the ankle (usually the wrong one) is a joke. I did watch a bit of that fag from England that came to LA to play soccer last week and (s)he finally got in the game after stretching out his already hurt foot and proceeded to get tackled and grabbed his foot. the replay showed that it was his other foot that actually got hit. What a bunch of Rosie O'Donnell's.

There are like 10 shots in the whole game that make it on net and it is also fun to watch the goalies dive like it is some amazing acrbatic save when they could have just stood there and caught the ball.

Soccer will never make it in the US. Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, and croquet will always be more fun to watch and will be more popular here in the US.

The dives just kill me. I remember watching a world cup game in a crowded bar and just yelling "GET THE F*CK UP PRINCESS!!" every time they'd start that crap. Thing is it would be watchable if it weren't for all that acting. Americans are used to football players getting creamed by 400 pound gorillas, then popping back up for the next play. We're just not gonna accept that level of B.S. in a NON-contact sport.

It's not the dives that get me - it's the wirthing around in pain, clutching some limb, and then the trainers show up with a bottle of something that when they pour it on the spot, the guy gets up and runs around within 30 seconds like nothing happened.

I'll bet they could make more money selling that water, than tickets. :D

I hate the dives and I hate the fake writhing around. At the pro and international level, FIFA and the domestic associations need to start reviewing the games and applying retroactive suspensions of four games or more. There is no excuse for the play acting but it is condoned and even encouraged by the managers. The authorities must kill this cancer off.

Yep, that and the lack of shots on goal are the main reasons why most people in America don't give a crap about soccer.

Funny:

Was watching a soccer match last night on tv w/ my son (he had to give his coach the name of a player). A dive & unbelievable writhing in pain followed. After ref watched him a bit, he ran off the field as if nothing happened.

SUX

I dont know why but the diving gets me too upset to watch most soccer matches. I really do enjoy watching the World Cup but cant usually make it through an entire match without switching the channel in disgust at some diving pus. Its too bad.

really? is that why there are so many soccer players that can cross over and excel at other sports? negative, t is a limited, niche sport -

let the rest of the world have it. The World Cup is interesting only b/c of the passion, certainly not those Euro's flopping all over the place.

No, it's a "boring" thing. Like golf, soccer is fun to play, but it's boring as hell to watch.

Negative. Golf, like soccer, is great to watch on TV at a certain level, and depending on who's playing. Watching Tiger in the hunt at Augusta on Sunday is a phenomenal sporting event to watch on TV. Watching a World Cup soccer game with 2 good, non-diving soccer teams is also fun to watch. Granted, neither are on the same level of Football or Hockey (let it go Wildcat), but they are certainly worthy of TV viewing.
