No kidding. There is no $*&^%$#ing way that happens! Why are people even talking about it?

I have been seeing more of it on message boards from fans than I have from the media. I have seen the media mention him but at the same time put out the disclaimer that they don't need him. I guess just so they can say they mentioned him if they did take him and say they said they didn't need him if they don't.

They signed another LB this week, Anthony Simmons I think, so I don't know if they would go Hawk. D'Brick seems the logical choice.

That would be good for New Orleans (15th rather than 31st)...other than the fact they would ahve to play Abraham twice a year.

I just do not buy that they would take Williams with the DE's they have.  I know they took Smith a few years back when they already had Grant and Howard and traded up to #6 to get Jonathan Sullivan the year before that  :D when they needed help elsewhere...but that was a different staff.  Unless Loomis has too much say.  Loomis could be their Doomis. (Cheesy, I know but I had to.)

I think what the Jets want is to pick up the #15 so that they are comfortable giving up the #4 along with their 2nd & 3rd. I don't think it's their intention to give up the #4 & #15 overall for Leinart, but I could be wrong. Either way if this trade gets done I'd be ecstatic to say the least.

Because the Saints are talking about it publically. They have been pimping Super Mario ever since it became evident they were after Brees. Truth be known I think it's just a ploy to get teams to move up to the #2 & allow them to still take either Hawk or Ferguson while picking up more picks. That's the way I see it, but the Saints have baffled me before in the draft.

Ferguson would be my choice as well and it may be telling that they have already picked up two LBs in FA(Fujita-SLB & Simmons OLB/MLB). However, Fujita is a solid player & that's about it. He's a workhorse, but not the type of playmaker the Saints so desparately need. Simmons on the other hand can be that player, but the recurring injuries have kept him from being that. I don't think the Saints will use him full time. I think they will rotate their LBs according to situation & try to keep Simmons healthy thru the year.

If I had to put money on it I'd say the Saints bait someone into moving up for either Leinart or Mario and trade down a few spots to take, in order of availability; Ferguson, Hawk or possibly even Vernon Davis or Ngata if they move down far enough. What's really good for the Saints is that they will save money on signing the guy they really wanted in the first place while picking up more picks.

Simmons if healthy will be a huge upgrade.

Definately no doubt there, hopefully he can stay healthy. I have yet to hear where they plan on playing him. Fujita is obviously the SLB, Watson & Bockwoldt are better suited at WLB. Do you think they will play Simmons in the middle or put him at WLB & let Fincher/Watson battle it out for the middle?

Sounds like you want him.

But it is always about bussiness. They might think they can trade away Charles Grant like they are doing John Abraham. Maybe even though it didnt work out with Howard.

Isn't that a question for YOU to answer, rajn? :D

It's all speculation right now. If I had to guess I'd say they put Simmons in the middle & Bockwoldt at WLB, but that may just be wishful thinking since I have CB in a couple of leagues and I'm a fan.

Rajin, since this is a new staff what do you think the O will be like?  Do you think it will mirror Dallas? If so a good TE like Davis would be a wise pick.

The right side is locked up with Jamaal Brown & Mayberry. Kendall Jacox was the backup center & will probably start if they don't get somebody else there. Montrae Holland will take LG provided he doesn't move on & Gandy will be back at LT. The only one I have any confidence in is Brown which is the main reason I'm hoping they get Ferguson.

I can't really say I'm familiar with Dallas' O-line, so I can't really compare the two. But I imagine the Saints will be running a similar style of offense. If they don't take Davis then I'd look at Zach Hilton as a good backup TE & possible sleeper. He doesn't have the speed of Brees' former TE, but the guy is 6'8, 270 and has great hands. He'll definately get a lot of looks in the red zone.

FWIW, my weekly Saints team report (updated Sunday) calls Simmons the WLB without even mentioning a possibly tryout at MLB. :D

He wasn't talking about the O-line, just the "O". As in, is the offense going to mirror Dallas's?

Honestly, this particular reporter is generally reliable, but the automatic WLB assumption for Simmons was a bit fishy to me. It wouldn't surprise me if he were wrong about it. It sure seems like the Saints are weaker in the middle than the weak side; plus, the middle is Simmons's natural position.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I think the idea is that the Jets are looking to make, virtually, a three-way deal here. Jets trade Abraham for a pick & trade that pick along with the #4 for Leinart at #2.

Very smart move by the Jets. While Leinart is by no means a lock to be their long-term solution, he's the best combination of talent and preparedness coming out of the draft this year.

Abraham unhappy over stalled deal

Tuesday, March 21, 2006

By RANDY LANGE

The stalled trade talks between the Jets and the Atlanta Falcons have left John Abraham, the focus of those talks, feeling he's being "treated like dirt" by the Jets, said a friend of the increasingly frustrated defensive end.

The friend said the Jets continue to tell Abraham what they want him to do to get the long-term deal he feels he deserves, then keep moving the bar.

Last year the message was to stay on the field for 16 games, have a great season and the sides might resume negotiations on a new contract.

He did that, then was told he would be franchise-tagged again, but that he could find a team interested in signing and trading for him.

Abraham found Atlanta, and that is creating new frustrations. He and agents Tony Agnone and Rich Rosa agreed on a new contract with Falcons general manager Rich McKay, and in his visit last week, he felt as if the Falcons players had already "adopted" him.

Fellow defensive end Patrick Kerney told him when the deal was completed, he'd recommend that Abraham, who wants to be a leader on his new team, be immediately added to the Falcons' veterans council.

Yet Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum and McKay reached a stalemate over compensation, the Jets wanting the Falcons' 15th overall pick in the draft, the Falcons wanting to give up their second-rounder, 47th overall.

Agnone did not return messages Monday but he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday that Abraham is "not happy."

Agnone said there had been no new developments over the weekend, nor had there been contract talks with Seattle, which jumped into the fray by offering the Jets their 31st overall pick for Abraham.

Agnone also said Abraham is intent on suiting up for the Falcons.

The good thing about this three-way standoff is that although it is believed the Jets and Falcons haven't talked since Saturday, no one is walking away from the table.

"I know we're trying hard to satisfy all parties concerned," said Atlanta owner Arthur Blank.

It's possible the general managers have been told by their bosses, Blank and Jets owner Woody Johnson to keep the haggling out of the media and get this matter resolved quietly.

Blank: 'Trying hard' to land Abraham

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 03/20/06

Falcons owner Arthur Blank said team officials continued to work on compensation to land New York Jets defensive end John Abraham, the pass-rushing specialist who has been their main offseason target.

"I know we're trying hard to satisfy all parties concerned," Blank said Monday. "I think John Abraham is satisfied, at this point. It's just a matter of us working something out with the Jets."

That could mean the Falcons offering more in a trade than the second-round pick in the April draft that the Jets rebuffed last week after Seattle offered its first round pick, 31st overall.

Atlanta refuses to trade backup quarterback Matt Schaub or its first-round draft pick (No. 15). Any new offer could include an additional pick in this season's draft or future considerations. Atlanta has already dealt its fourth-round pick to Cleveland for safety Chris Crocker.

"I spent several hours with him last week and he's a great football player and will continue to be a great football player," Blank said.

What I do not undestand is why the hell the Texans do not do the deal? If I can get a potential 10 years anchor on my O-Line and a 27 year-old DE for Bush, I do it in a heart beat. If the jets take Linerht at #1, then doesn't NO have to take Bush at #2? Titans take thier QB pick at #3 and the Texans take Fergusin. Is it me?????

The hang up here may be Abraham - he prefers to play in Atlanta because he has roots in nearby South Carolina. I don't know whether or not he has talked to Houston, but I do know that Abraham wants an awful lot of guaranteed money, and there are certainly teams that will be reluctant to commit that kind of cash to an arguably injury-prone and one-dimensional defensive end.

Nevertheless, I think you have a good point, and certainly I would think that the Texans at a minimum should be having some telephone conversations with the Jets. But you're assuming that the Jets would give up their #4 overall plus Abraham for the #1 overall. As noted above, I think what the Jets would like to be able to do is swap Abraham for a mid-round #1, and then swap their #4 overall plus their 2nd and 3rd rounders for the #1 or #2 overall, while holding on to the mid-first round pick acquired for Abraham.

One more time -- Sullivan is not a DE. He's a DT, at the time and currently very much a need position.

Right now it would be Jamar Nesbit I believe Rajn. Mayberry was a huge disappointment last year, but hopefully he and Holland will work out well at the guards. I don't like Gandy at LT (especially at his salary), but unless we take Ferguson we don't have much of a choice.

And as for TE, almost every Saints fan knows exactly who Zach Hilton is. Huge kid with great hands. He should put up some really good #'s this year.

Cutler is going to be the biggest flop in rookie history I just hope he doesn't play. From what I saw at the combine I found he was COMPLETELY overrated. Leinart as a Jet welcome to the NFL you're gonna get killed the only QB that will have a nice transition to the NFL is indeed Vince because he is the only QB who he himself dominated the college ranks.

Just wait until the Vikings trade their entire draft for the #1 pick and throw a monkey wrench in all these teams plans.  :D

No link, but On KFAN this afternoon, coach Childress admitted that he is pursuing to move in to the top five! QB?

KFAN was throwing out scenarios for that: Our 1st this year and next years 1st round. I am not sure if I like that...But Brad only going to be here for 2 years, maybe 3 max.
