Catbert
ESPN article excerpt: "How long did it take for the Falcons to establish their dominance over a defense that is supposed to rate as a Super Bowl-caliber unit? One might suggest that, with some Carolina defenders taking public note of the Falcons' much-detested zone-blocking scheme the middle of last week and fretting for their safety because of the number of cut-blocks involved, Atlanta entered the game with some degree of psychological edge. And it didn't take long for the Falcons to shove a Carolina defense that might be a tad overhyped right over the edge. Warrick Dunn led the Falcons' running attack with 132 yards on 29 carries. In the first 20 minutes of the game alone, Atlanta had runs of 13, 13, 16, 21 and 24 yards. For the day, the Falcons, who tweaked their running game a little by adding some misdirection, registered 11 rushes of 10 yards or more and three runs of 20-plus yards. One Panthers player described his team's problem as one of "execution." The bigger shortcoming was that the Carolina defense was executed by an Atlanta running game that sliced, diced, folded, spindled and mutilated the Carolina front seven. The return of Jenkins, who appeared in just five games over the past two seasons because of injuries, and the addition of former Baltimore run-stuffer Maake Kemoeatu, signed as an unrestricted free agent this spring, was supposed to provide the Panthers an impenetrable front. Based on its Sunday performance, the Carolina front four won't soon be conjuring up any comparisons to, say, the Steel Curtain, the Purple People Eaters or the Fearsome Foursome. The line specifically, and the front seven in general, played with all the consistency and staying power of, say, oatmeal." http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor..._len&id=2582315

darin3
What the heck is it with people this year? It's been ONE WEEK, guy. There is an element of patience in this game. Lose it and you will be even more frustrated.

Brewer
no...his season is over forever... I agree. There is no way he can contend for a championship with the Panthers D. Not gonna happen.

LooGie
Yup...ATL sliced and diced us...call up Fox..close up the playbooks..someone hit lights on the way out. It's over. Shame on the huddle for getting the homers/ff players hopes up. they knew better. Common sense would've told us that CAR is the worst DEF in the last 30 years. Pack it in. time to go. Brewer
I would trade the Panthers defense for any defense that you can find. Except the Steelers. I hear that the league is actually going to allow refs to make calls against them starting in week 3.

Big Score 1
Carolina's D was up against the best rushing team in the NFL. Then the Falcons got out to an early lead & the D did their part, by having it hold up. Early lead + best rushing team in the NFL + good D by Atlanta = Red Headed Stepchild Treatment Out Behind The Woodshed for the Panthers D
