Fantasy Jesus
Anytime you hear a player visiting Dr James Andrews it's trouble. I don't like this one bit. "CHARLOTTE -- Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith flew to Alabama on Monday morning to get a second opinion on his troublesome hamstring, which could actually be a sign things are improving. According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Smith traveled to Birmingham, Ala., to consult with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Calls to his agent weren't returned Monday, and Panthers officials won't comment." http://www.heraldonline.com/247/story/6930.html Edited September 19, 2006 by Fantasy Jesus
FredGSanford
Read the rest of the article. May actually be a good thing. "Simply getting another look at the injury isn't necessarily a dire sign. Players get outside opinions often, and there's a sense that Smith's getting closer to a return and just wanted to check with Andrews to make sure the progress was real and that more activity wouldn't pose a risk of another setback." Please, please let this be true. That whole Carolina offense will be dramatically improved when he comes back. FredGSanford
I agree, that name gives me shivers. I am a Smith owner looking for any glimmer of hope.

irish
It was either him or TO... either way, right now, we'd be Having Smith is worse. TO would've been better at this point. But Hindsight is always 20/20. BREAKING NEWS September 19, 2006 ============== ** Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald reports: "Panthers WR Steve Smith flew to Alabama yesterday morning to get a second opinion on his troublesome hamstring. According to sources, Smith traveled to Birmingham, Ala., to consult with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Calls to his agent weren't returned Monday, and Panthers officials won't comment." Ouch. It's possible there's fluid accumulating in that hammy, signifying real damage. You can't trade Smith now (selling low is the same as dropping him) so just wait it out and see if we get some good news. The rundown on the Panthers passing offense? Jake Delhomme needs his stud wideout badly. Keyshawn Johnson's fantasy stock remains rock-solid right now. Drew Carter has a broken finger but will try to play with a soft cast. He's quietly caught 9 passes in two games. Keary Colbert is not getting it done. Those with Smith on their roster/s better hope the visit was just to see that he is healing and all will be fine. However, I'm thinking all isn't fine and Smith is done as his hammy will be an issue all year and his playing time will be extremely limited. For all you Smith owners that's why they call this Fantasy Football because winning your league title this year will only be a Fantasy. Pirate lookin' at 40
How do you think I feel?? My starter is Delhomme and My #1 wr is Smith. I'm 0-2 and have scored the least amount of points in a 14 team league. Wait, it gets even worse: Delhomme and Smith were my two keepers from last year. PantherDave
The second opinion was needed most likely if there was indeed fluid on the hammy, and usually a standard MRI as well. TO had some fluid in PS and TC, so it's not neccasarily(sp) bad news if there is fluid. This is an exam and exactly what is implied-a second opinion for Smith, the training staff and the organazation. Homers and FF'ers will get more enjoyment outta Smith if this is handled the correct way-even if it means sitting another week. max
I'll give him a second opinion. "Hey, Steve. You're injury's killing our WCOFF team!!!!!" Well said Doc. Now Smith, Listen to our resident Dr and get on the damn field!!!
Trots
It just sucks that he injured the OTHER hammy just as the first was about to heal. It also sucks that I traded for him but that's another story.
Scorcher
If he went to Dr. Vinny Bon Boom, the second opinion would be"Okay-----you're ugly." With respects to Rodney.
