An associate of mine suffered a stroke a few months ago.

He has been slowly recovering but was totally dependent on his wife.

She was killed in a car accident last Friday night.

Her funeral is tomorrow.

His 50th birthday is today.

He will be in a nursing home here for a few weeks until his family in Alabama makes arrangements to take him home.

Very tragic story, driveby...

Many moons ago, my Dad worked for a publisher of car-related magazines. The president/owner of the company was kind of a wild child and he and his wife made frequent trips to Colorado in his small plane. They were tragically killed when the plane crashed one winter night on the way in to Colorado. The company's vice president, a very competent and likable guy, was given the reins to the company and everything appeared to be back on track.... and he died of a heart attack about 2 months into his tenure. It was a tough situation for my Dad as he had been with the company for 20+ years and it was like an extended family to him.
