peepinmofo
2001: A Space Odyssey (the spinning pen, the person walking upside down, etc.) Not a fave movie, but it broke new ground for efx. Bullitt.............best chase scene ever! French Connection......2nd best chase scene ever! No new ones can come close to those. I dont know the age, but did you see the chase scenes in Ronin? That was some great cinematography...

rocknrobn26
The Blues Brothers! Very well done, but my refs were way earlier. I dont know the age, but did you see the chase scenes in Ronin? That was some great cinematography... Sorry, doesn't compare. The films I quoted were WAY before Ronin, BB, whatever! The BB chase scene was great, but way after Bulitt, FC! Maybe I misunderstood. But All the movies I quoted were way before Blues, Ronin, whatever!

Chargerz
Here's a list that's pretty good. I have to admit that Psycho certainly deserves to be on this list....WAY ahead of its time!!!

detlef
Az's mention of Wizard of Oz is outstanding. 1939. Think about that for a second. 1939. Compare that to fantasy/sci-fi flicks made even 20-30 years after that and it completely blows them away in terms of film making. Star Wars was the first thing that came to mind for me but, after having read that, I think Oz takes it.

rocknrobn26
Flash Gordon (1980) How many of you have seen the original series from the thirties? Those are classic! The FX are sooooo bad, but still fun to watch.

Pope Flick
Just reminded of John Carpenter's The Thing. The music doesn't hold up, but that was one of the last bad-ass 'analog' SPXF films, as CG was starting to get its act together in the 80's. If you have never seen it, you are truly missing out. McBoog
As much of a Stalone fan I am NOT, I really think DEMOLITION MAN's story and peek into the future is pretty amazing. The Arnold Schwartzeneggernnnergeresz (whatever) Presidential Library? This was LONG before anyone would have thought it possible he could even be a Gov. There are a lot of bits of social commentary in that flick that keep popping up today. Taco Bell won the restraunt wars and now ALL restraunts are Taco Bell. Have a joy joy day!
