Perchoutofwater
About 1:45 last night I was woken up by my dog barking. He's normally not a barker, but he barked pretty much non-stop for a bout 5 minutes. I was sitting there thinking, If there's a idiot out there with that dog, and they haven't gone on they deserve to get lead poisoning. I go out there (left the gun in the safe, because nobody is that dumb) and find my dog barking at a 30" water moccasin. Due to the patio furniture, and my immense fear of snakes it took me about 5 minutes to kill the damned thing. It stunk to high heaven. bpwallace49
How did you kill it without your gun? Did you strangle it with your bare hands a la Bear Grylls?

Don't forget the panther and black bear are both making a resurgence in East Texas. There is actually some conservation group bringing in black bears. I'm sorry, but I see a bear around my house I'm shooting it. I don't need my kids walking up on that.

And my entire yard is infested with rabbits, which the dog absolutely hates. He hasn't caught one yet, but he will.

Perch, I came across two black bear in Shenandoah over this past summmer on one hike. They are actually pretty timid animals. They aren't really interested in people, just make some noise and they'll move on. Just don't feed them so that they don't associate humans with food and all will be OK. No need to go shooting them. Kid Cid
Unless one of the bears is a mamma bear and there are some baby bears around. Tru dat. But the fact remains, don't bother them and they will go on their merry way. Just don't bother them quicker if they are small.
whomper
We get snakes and coyotes which I try to keep the dog away from. And my entire yard is infested with rabbits, which the dog absolutely hates. He hasn't caught one yet, but he will. My dog was digging a spot last week and I saw her out of my dining room window. My blood was boiling and I went to go out to reprimand her and my wife yelled out that something was moving where she was digging. I go to look and she found a burrough of brand new just born baby rabbits. there are about 6 of them . My dog is absolutely obessesed with them. I have a chain link fence seperating my yard so the dogs have a run and we have a nice side that they dont destroy. She happened to be on our good side when she found the bunnies. She goes out all day and night to just stare through the fence at that hole. Meanwhile we totally hooked these bunnies up. We feed the mom and cover them with an umbrella when it rains. They got very big in 1 week. they have fur now and will probably leave the burrough very soon. It has been great for my kids to watch them develop over the last week or so. I never touch them so my scent isnt on them. The mom tends to them all day and the dogs are losing their minds but the babies should be out of the hole soon. Ill post pics later tonight. I was going to mention this. If Perch plans on shooting them he better have his weaponery on his person; every time I've ran into a black bear they pretty much get out of dodge lickety split. Duchess Jack
We have wolf spiders up in this area. A buddy of mine said that we've a certain spider that'll lay on its back in a birds nest and wait for the bird to land and eat it. Could have been pulling my leg - but if not - dang. funny to hear that the snake stunk. what did it stink of?
