muck
I was thinking about this on the way in. Which players were the all-time one hit wonders? Criteria: Long-ish career with one extraordinary season and a bunch of mediocre ones on both sides of the hugh success ... or ... possibly, two really good seasons with at least one crappy year in between, plus a bunch of other non-descript seasons before and/or after the two good years (see Dorsey Levens for an example) Running list: QB: Joe Namath -- circa 1967 -- 4,007 / 26 --- before you laugh, look at the other stats Lynn Dickey -- circa 1983 -- 4,458 / 32 Bill Kenney -- circa 1983 -- 4,348 / 24 Jay Schroeder -- circa 1986 - 4,109 / 22 Don Majkowski -- circa 1989 -- 4,318 / 27 Scott Mitchell -- circa 1995 -- 4,338 / 32 Steve Beuerlein -- circa 1999 -- 4,436 / 36 Elvis Grbac -- circa 2000 -- 4,169 / 28 Derek Anderson -- circa 2007 -- 3,787 / 29 RB: Ickey Woods -- circa 1988 -- 1,265 yfs / 15 TDs Barry Foster -- circa 1992 -- 2,034 yfs / 11 TDs Natrone Means -- circa 1994 -- 1,585 yfs / 12 TDs Dorsey Levens -- circa 1997 -- 1,805 yfs / 12 TDs Olandis Gary -- circa 1999 -- 1,318 yfs / 7 TDs Mike Anderson -- circa 2000 -- 1,656 yfs / 15 TDs WR: Charley Hennigan -- circa 1961 -- 1,746 yds / 12 TDs Alfred Jenkins -- circa 1981 -- 1,358 yds / 13 TDs Stanley Morgan -- circa 1986 -- 1,491 yds / 10 TDs Mark Carrier -- circa 1989 -- 1,422 yds / 9 TDs Robert Brooks -- circa 1995 -- 1,497 yds / 13 TDs Brett Perriman -- circa 1995 -- 1,488 yds / 9 TDs Michael Jackson -- circa 1996 -- 1,201 yds / 14 TDs Rob Moore -- circa 1997 -- 1,584 yds / 8 TDs Marcus Robinson -- circa 1999 -- 1,400 yds / 9 TDs Germane Crowell -- circa 1999 -- 1,338 yds / 7 TDs Muhsin Muhammad -- circa 2004 -- 1,405 yds / 16 TDs Michael Clayton -- circa 2004 -- 1,193 yds / 7 TDs Drew Bennett -- circa 2004 -- 1,247 yds / 11 TDs Santana Moss -- circa 2005 -- 1,483 yds / 9 TDs Braylon Edwards - circa 2007 -- 1,289 yds / 16 TDs Edited October 27, 2009 by muck

Hugh 0ne
FWIW, I picked up Beuerlein off the waiver wire that year, had Eddie George and Marshall Faulk as my RB's, and won the whole thing.

My nominees at QB and WR are: Steve Beuerlein - circa 1999 Muhsin Muhammad - circa 2004 I don't know that I would call #17 on the all-time career receptions list a "one hit wonder"
DMD
Patrick Jeffers had a five year career and one season of 63-1082 and 12 TDs but nothing in any other year. Chris Sanders (TEN) had a rookie year of 823 yards nad 9 TDs and almost nothing in the next six seasons.

The Waterboy
Agree with all previous nominations. Add: -Drew Bennett, 2004 and for that matter, Billy Volek, weeks 13-15 in 2004. Changed the fantasy playoffs for a LOT of people. -Lamar Smith, 2000. -Robert Edwards, 1998. -Wang Chung, 1986. Everybody have fun tonight. muck
If I had a database, and knew what I was doing, I'd write a query that would give us the answers based on the biggest deviations from other years, with a certain baseline for "maximum production" so that a guy like Chris Sanders wouldn't make it because his really good year wasn't good enough. muck
I don't know that I would call #17 on the all-time career receptions list a "one hit wonder" I had forgotten that he had two other seasons with more than 1000 yds and one other season with more than 100 receptions. However, those two seasons were pretty far in the rear view mirror when he threw up 1400 yards and 16 TDs (which was 2x more than his previous career high) in 2004. But, I get your point. I also agree that the one season was certainly light years above his norm, so he fits that part of the criteria, but I just think of the term "one hit wonder" as a guy that basically did nothing at all in his other seasons. Nitpicking, I know.

Sprtfan
The first two names I thought of were Anthony Thomas and David Boston, but after looking up the stats they probably do not fit. Boston had two really good years and Anthony Thomas only good year really was not all that great. I remember thinking at the time though that he was going to be great.
