Savage Beatings
what a socialist Big difference between when a private company freely makes such a decision as a benefit to it's own employess, compared to when an overbearing government forces that decision upon all companies at the expense of all tax paying citizens. westvirginia
China? No concept of valuing human life and no concern for the well-being of its citizens? So anyone without socialist tendencies has no concern for others' well being and doesn't value human life? I would submit that I have greater concern for human life than you. I want to see people live free of the chains of government intervention. I never want to live my life for the benefit of another man, nor another man be forced to live his life for my benefit. Big Country
According to this calculator, $5 in 1914 is equal to about $108 today. So, given an 8 hour work day, that is roughly the equivalent of $13.50 an hour.

So, given an 8 hour work day, that is roughly the equivalent of $13.50 an hour. good job remembering to adjust for inflation to be more complete though, a better way would be to adjust using a price index geared towards wages. The Unskilled Wage Rate is good way to determine the relative cost of something in terms of the amount of work it would take to produce, or the relative time it would take to earn its cost. It can also be useful in comparing different wages over time. The unskilled wage is a more consistent measure than the average wage for making comparisons over time. If you do it that way, the $5 day actually corresponds to $475.28 per day (or $59.41 per hour). http://www.measuringworth.com/uscompare/

The assembly line, and I think he's the one that instituted the 5-day work week, and of course, paying his folks what was considered an astronomical sum for un/semi-skilled labor.
