Swampnuts
My dad's 60th is this month, and I was thinking of getting him a new watch. Any recommendations or other gift ideas appreciated!
wiegie
From what I've heard, the kids these days have stopped using watches since they can just check the time on their phones. Are you trying to make your dad feel old and not with it? As for the watch, it's hard to give a recommendation without knowing the price-range you are looking at and what sort of watches your dad might like. Jimmy Neutron
What price range are you looking at? My son is very happy with his $9.99 Wal*Mart special. Others on this board like 4 & 5 figure fancy tickers. I'm quite happy with my Citizen Eco special from bluedial.com. Good luck!

Perchoutofwater
Without a price range it is impossible to give you a suggestion.
Savage Beatings
For Christmas, my wife just gave me this Seiko Kinetic watch. So far I love it! No battery it runs on your everyday motion as you wear it.

My father and my brother also own Tags, and have for years.

Shaman
My dad and I have always wore Casio's G-Shock. He works with leather and wood and I work with computers (hardware mostly), so we are always getting our hands and fingers banged up, so would the watch if it wasn't for the protective layer. BTW my dad's 64 and he is still working with wood, so it depends on your dad's lifestyle. We have never been fans of flashy stuff since that money is better used for more beer, Good Luck Edited January 16, 2010 by Shaman
Puddy
this old thread might help though: http://forums.thehuddle.com/index.php?show...6&hl=tissot I have to say that both of the watches I bought from that thread have been great. I wear the TAG 80% of the time. However, I don't think I've ever received a compliment on the TAG while I've received many when wearing the Movado (even though it was less than half the price). It must be the unique look of a Movado

Indeed the make such a thing, affordable, too! (I have to admit, I think it is kinda cool, and would be great to snap onto my fly fishing vest. )
