Playboy back issues

We're moving next year and I'm the process of going through a lot of old stuff to toss or put in storage. I've got every issue of Playboy from the early 90's to present. Aside from Jenny McCarthy's playmate issue and maybe a couple of others, I can't say any of them have particular value to me. I started saving them because some older issues are really valuable and it just seemed like you are supposed to save them. In the back of my mind I thought I'd sell them some day, but I don't know when that day is going to come, and I'm tired of lugging them from house to house.

Any other subscribers keep back issues? Anyone know if these have much value today or possibly in 5-10 years?

I subscribe and I save my back issues. I don't know why I do. I just know that my uncle was a subscriber for decades. When we would stay at his house, my brother and I would sneak into his garage at night and go through his boxes of back issues, grab a bunch and sneak them into our suitcases. Maybe someday I could be that uncle.

That's exactly why I've kept mine all these years. I figure it will be a hidden goldmine for my kids and their cousins when they are teenagers.

I have got three boxes that have made two moves for my two nephews who are 5 and 4 currently. They may have to make one more move so the boys can take a few home after a visit. Their moms and dads won't be impressed, but I will laugh for months.

Two words: Devin Devasquez

Wow - seriously? About 5 years ago I had an opportunity to work in LA for 3-5 months - they were going to pay for me to stay in an Extended Stay America - I asked if it was cheaper to rent could I - they said yes - I answered a Craigslist ad and ended up being her Roomie for 4 months. It was an awesome house and she was honestly one of the nicest people I have ever met. I would never put her in my tops as for as hot goes but she was an awesome person.

She is off the market now and I have no idea why she married the dude she did - yea he is rich but not a bright dude - he played in the band Player (Baby Come Back) and also a star on the soap Bold and the Beautiful. You, without a doubt are a step up from that dude.

The only time you ever throw away a mag is if the pages have pulled each other apart...leaving nothing to..ummm..look at. Yep...thats my story and I'm sticking with it...wait.

So at the end of the day, the solution is to send em all to Taz so he can spank off to them while away secluded for 6 weeks.

Word of warning taz.... dont touch the pages that are stuck together.

Went on Ebay, saw they aren't selling for much. So I decided to compromise, I put the last 4 years' worth of issues into a box and was going to put them out by the curb tomorrow, saving the older ones that I still have stashed away in boxes. But I couldn't even do that. I started going through them and reminiscing, then I saw the Vida Guerra issue...I had forgotten she even did Playboy. Yada yada yada, 6 minutes later my mind was made up. I'm keeping every issue until I croak.

I'm guessing there are a lot of similar collections out there, making them all less valuable. But you never know... as the internet slolwy kills off the printed porn industry, those collections might just have value in the future. Seems like a lot of work for that kind of investment though.

Karen McDougal (circa 1997) is a favorite of mine.

she lives here and works out at my gym. She has aged beautifully and still is the hottest piece of ass when she is in there working out.

Just phenomenal.

No sh*t?

I need to think of a flimsy pretext to get out to Scottsdale.

It is. You can buy unopened back issues directly from Playboy. A friend of mine buys them directly from Playboy, then resells them on Ebay as "mint condition" back issues. Technically, they are. People just don't realize they can buy them direct.

Yep, and I think the collectibles industry is not sustainable for anything created after about 1990 when everyone started paying big money for things like this. Because 1) Everyone and their brother saw what was going on and started becoming packrats and 2) the publishers themselves totally fed it.

Take the trading card industry. When I was in college, I met two guys who were collectors and saw what people were paying for these things. So, next time I was at home, I went into my attic and fished out the cards I collected as a kid and sold some. What I failed to realize was that it was completely pointless to buy anything being produced then. At one time, rookie cards were worth something because there was no hype surrounding the card when it was made, so plenty got destroyed or thrown away. However, once a Joe Nameth card was fetching north of $1000, everyone was grabbing and holding every rookie card for every dude that entered the league. Hell, the companies started feeding this by making whole rookie sets. Like those were ever going to be worth anything.

Dude could go on to be the greatest player ever to play the game, but if there were 1000s of his rookie card made and tons of people holding on to them, that card is never going to be worth jack.
